Cub Football - Cubs are hoping the home stands are overflowing on Friday night as they continue quest for CIF title

LOYOLA CIF PLAYOFF TRADITION HAS FANS EXCITED
For many decades it was an annual tradition for Loyola's football team to be competing in the CIF Southern Section playoffs as the the cooler days of November showcased the Cubs' treks through the playoff brackets.

For the 25-year period from 1981-2005, Loyola was a CIF playoff participant every season. During that quarter century of unprecedented success, the Cubs advanced to the quarterfinal round 22 times, made the semifinal round on 11 occasions and played in the title game seven times, winning three championship trophies (1990, 2003, 2005).

Following the 2005 title campaign, Loyola entered a relative drought period in terms of playoff participation, making only three appearances in the last 13 seasons before this fall. Friday's quarterfinal match-up against Villa Park is only the second quarterfinal game the Cubs will have played in dating back to the CIF Division I championship campaign in 2005.

Ticket sales are proceeding at a rapid pace, and the Loyola community is enthusiastically embracing the Cubs' return to  CIF playoff competition.

The purpose of this communication is to encourage all Big Blue supporters to attend Friday's game at Smith Field. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. It will be a great opportunity for former players who have worn the Blue helmet to reminisce about days of past CIF glory.

VANGUARD PRE-GAME AT PAPA CRISTO'S ON FRIDAY AT 5:00 P.M.

The Loyola Gridiron Vanguard has a arranged for Cub Football supporters to meet for a gathering at Papa Cristo's Greek Grill on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
