Cub Football - All-time Loyola football team - Greatest games in Cub Football history

Loyola Gridiron Vanguard Dinner Meeting and Cocktail Reception to discuss important topics
Among the topics of discussion at the Loyola Gridiron Vanguard Dinner Meeting and Cocktail Reception on March 28 will be starting the process of selecting an all-time Loyola football team and identifying the greatest victories in the illustrious annals of Cub Football.  Anyone and everyone who loves Cub Football is invited.

All-time Loyola football team
One of the linemen on the all-time team - which clearly will have to go at least five players deep (or more) at every position - is 1963 CIF Southern Section AAAA Player-of-the-Year DON SWART '64, who was an exceptionally talented hard nosed two-way tackle on the undefeated 1962 (12-0) and 1963 (12-0) CIF AAAA champion Loyola teams.  Swartz's 1963 battery mate was junior tackle GEORGE KUNZ '65, who later was a consensus All-American at the University of Notre Dame and an eight-time All-Pro in the NFL.  Swartz, who started on the offensive line at Stanford, will be the guest speaker at the meeting. Swartz was a big part of the famed Cub single-wing juggernaut that won a CIF Large Schools record 35 straight games from 1962-1964..

Greatest Cub Football victories
What were Loyola's 20 greatest victories of all time? The playoff quarterfinal playoff win over heavily favored Fontana in 1990?  The come from behind semifinal playoff gem against Los Alamitos in 1995?  The famous bounce pass victory over Anaheim in the 1975 CIF AAAA semifinals?  The 14-3 triumph over Anaheim in the 1962 CIF AAAA championship game?  The thrilling 49-42 Cub victory over Esperanza in the the 2005 CIF Div. I title game?  The down-to-the-wire 2003 CIF Div. I playoff final win over L.B. Poly at the Home Depot Center? The 1977 semifinal overtime playoff victory over state number one-ranked Fountain Valley?  Those are sure to be games under consideration.  But every former Cub over multiple generations has his favorite.

Some great topics to begin considering and debating on March 28.

And there will be a look forward to the 2017 season and how the Vanguard plans to support Cub football well into the future.
