LOYOLA MAKES 37th CIF SOUTHERN SECTION SECOND ROUND PLAYOFF APPEARANCE AS CUBS WAKE UP ECHOES OF PAST PLAYOFF GLORY
The 2021 Angelus League champion Loyola Cubs (8-3) are entering rarefied air as they prepare to enter the second round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs for the 37th time in their legendary post season history. Loyola has advanced beyond the second round 20 times.
The Big Blue will host undefeated, number two seed, Baseline League champion Etiwanda (11-0) in a battle to secure a berth in the Division 3 semifinals at Smith Field on Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. There will be plenty of energy percolating on both sidelines.
With thirteen CIF championship game appearances in their illustrious grid annals, the Cubs are determined to put forth the intense 48-minute effort necessary to advance to the semifinal round of the playoffs for the 21st time. The most recent semifinal appearance was in 2019 against Camarillo at Moorpark College.
Friday’s blockbuster showdown promises to be a battle royale. Etiwanda may be the best team Loyola has faced this season, and the Cubs are the best squad the Eagles have faced. As they say, “get ready to rumble” as Loyola will strive to add another victory page to its impressive playoff history ledger. This is a contest you don’t want to miss.
Tickets may only be purchased online on the loyolahs.com website or gofan.co. Smith Field only accommodates about 4,000 fans, so be sure to purchase your tickets early, as sales have been brisk.
