Loyola Gridiron Vanguard dinner meeting on February 23
Everyone who subscribes to this newsletter should have already received the registration link to the Loyola Gridiron Vanguard's February 23 dinner meeting and cocktail reception which will be held at Xavier Center on the campus at Loyola on February 23.

The guest speaker will be DON SWARTZ, the Cubs' 1963 CIF AAAA Player-of-the-Year.  Don is one of just a handful of linemen in the history of the CIF Southern Section to be named Player-of-the-Year.  He helped pave the way to a 12-0 record and a second consecutive CIF AAAA title.  The Cubs outscored their opponents 350-53 and finished the '63 campaign ranked second in the nation.  Swartz, who played football at Stanford, has been highly instrumental in assisting Loyola's remarkable campus development and expansion.

Also expected to attend the February 23 meeting is former All-CIF AAAA tackle GEORGE KUNZ '65, who later was a consensus All-American at the University of Notre Dame, the second player taken in the 1969 NFL draft and an eight-time All-Pro with the Baltimore Colts and Atlanta Falcons. Kunz played a major role in Loyola's record 35 game undefeated streak that is still best among CIF Div. I/Large Schools.
