Speedy News: UK Games Expo, Collaborative Publishing & TERMINUS
Hello Friends!
I hope you're all well, and this newsletter hasn’t startled you too badly.
This is a very quick update about some of the things I’m doing!
First up: I'll be at the UK Games Expo over the next few days. If you're going, please do say hello!
I'm doing a variety of things at the expo, some of which may be of interest:
Playtest: Model Village
Friday, 10am–1pm - Playtest Zone (2-108)
Model Village is a board game where players try to construct a model model model village. Or something. Anyway, I came up with this game a while ago and I'll be playtesting a slightly rough version of it in the playtest zone. Feel free to come play a round and/or critique my craft skills.
Seminar: Mining British Folklore for TTRPGs
Saturday, 2pm–3pm - Stage B, Hall 4
Join me, Scott Malthouse, Chris Bissette, and moderator Chant Evans as we talk about folklore and TTRPGs. I'm really looking forward to this!
Note: The time of this panel was originally listed as 12 noon, and that's probably what the printed schedule says, but apparently it's definitely now at 2pm (but I'd keep an eye on the schedule listing myself, just in case...)
UK Tabletop Industry Network Stand
Friday & Saturday, 3–6pm - UK Tabletop Industry Network Stand (2-383)
I'm pleased to say that Darkened Hill & Dale is making its first expo appearance and will be available to buy from the UK TIN stand alongside the works of other indie creators. Artwork postcards and stickers for This Blighted Isle will also be available.
The stand will be open throughout the whole event, but I'll be helping out 3–6pm on Friday and Saturday. Please do come say hello!
Gathering: Planning an Unconference for Tabletop Game-Makers
Saturday, ~7:45pm – Crowne Plaza Hotel Bar
I'm sort of hosting a very casual meetup on Saturday evening for folks interested in the idea of establishing a new event for tabletop game-makers. Something that's less like an expo and more like an unconference, perhaps. This gathering does unfortunately clash with at least two other things at UKGE, but that's part of why I think we could do with another event… Anyway, come along if that appeals!
If this event idea interests you but you can't make it on Saturday, whack your info into this form and I'll try to set up an online platform for further discussion after UKGE.
I'll be around for the whole event and will try to post my likeness daily over on BlueSky to make me easier to spot.
In other news:
You can still back TERMINUS via the late pledge functionality over on Kickstarter! Work on that will be kicking off properly in June. I have a box of mosaic tiles ready and waiting…
I finally got so frustrated/dismayed about the endless challenges being thrown at indie TTRPG makers that I decided to launch a collaborative production/publishing'/distribution initiative. As you do. Read about it over here.
And that’s it for now! I have to go lob books into boxes, but hopefully I’ll run into some of you over the next few days.
