School Boards Pass Resolutions Warning Communities About Amendment 5

Parents urge school boards to speak out on Amendment 5

School boards are leaving no room for doubt, stating unflinchingly that Amendment 5 would gut their budgets. Parent leaders moved their boards to pass resolutions across the state:

  • Columbia School District

  • Independence School District

  • Kansas City Public Schools

  • Lee’s Summit School District

  • Rockwood School District

  • School District of University City

The Independence School Board passes a resolution in opposition to Amendment 5, stating: "As a Board, we have a responsibility to protect opportunities for every student while planning responsibly for the future."

The Final Two Weeks Are the Whole Ballgame

This is it. The next 14 days will decide whether Missouri protects public school funding or risks $1.4 billion. Here's what YOU can do to change the outcome:

Throw Down to Bring More “No-on-5” Voters to the Polls!

  • Organize the people in your circle with plans to vote. Confusion is the enemy. Most Missourians still don't know Amendment 5 is on the ballot, let alone what's in it. Engage at least 5 of your neighbors, family members, friends with the information they need to make their voting plans and Vote NO on Amendment 5. Track the conversations here.

  • Host a house meeting with 8-15 people from your community to better understand what's on the line and how take action. Toolkit here.

Neighbors gather for a house meeting to learn more about Amendment 5.
  • Engage small businesses in your community to try to get 5 posters placed in storefronts near you. Check out the toolkit here!

  • Have conversations and pass out flyers in places parents gather: playgrounds, camp drop off/pick up, youth sports events, etc. Check out our relational canvassing toolkit here and flyer to get started!

Parents in KC share flyers at their local elementary school.
