Ups. And Downs

This month has had its ups. And its downs. I sent in edits for an anthology horror story around the theme of AIR for a diaspora anthology, SILK & SINEW. In addition, I copy-edited several short stories and academic essays for Roses & Wildflowers magazine and assisted with a grant application. The productivity has not gone down.
One up was winning a prize in a summer reading challenge. I had entered before in summer and winter. Since it’s a competition where your entries for reading or attending library activities are put into a drawing, it’s more of a random raffle. We also don’t know how many enter.
Then I got a call, saying I had won a prize. I was not expecting it, and it was nice. After filling out some paperwork and taking a photo, I got to take this basket home. I’m waiting for a good time to open it, since it has a lot of books and tickets to the November Book Fair.
We take the ups as time passes, even when other stresses intervene. Because they help us get through the day-to-day.

A pet owner in South Carolina got bitten by one of his snakes. It happens to be one of the deadliest snakes globally. And it reminds me of my own wild snake phobia.
