34 and Counting

I turned 34 this month. Ended up blogging about it: https://priyajsridhar.com/34-lucky-beginnings. The cake in the photo was for my younger brother’s birthday. I made a chocolate chip cookie cake and added purple food coloring to the buttercream frosting.
It’s been a month of contemplating. There has been time for that with the heat. I also did some traveling and spent a few days with a friend.
Age is supposed to bring wisdom. We learn from our mistakes and explore new experiences. Fleeting time has us appreciate the little things, like a sunset on a clear night or the bag of candy you find among your presents.
It feels like age had jaded me instead. I treat people more warily these days, though still wanting to make friends and be nice. It makes me feel that the world I once believed in, with social contracts and expectations, never existed. The rules have changed, far too much for my liking.
I hope I’m not too jaded, while also gaining the ability to read people better. Part of me wants to believe in the benefit of the doubt. The other part knows better. I guess that’s a part of getting older.
