PLNT LYFE v6: Just Keep Picking Your Feet Up
Just Keep Picking Your Feet Up
At some point in the Rich Roll Podcast episode with Tony Riddle, Tony mentions he just focuses on picking his feet back up. A quick release from the ground. Or something to that effect.
Which mirrors something I heard/read somewhere way back in the archives of Tim Ferriss. When running, just focus on your foot after it hits the ground. Make sure there is a high release. Or something to that effect. (Memory is a highly imperfect thing, ok?)
I’ve started focusing on that during my runs. When I need a focal point, like breathing in meditation. Or when I feel like I’m plodding and need something quick and easy to think about to spur me back into form. And it seems to work. I feel like my gait improves. It’s also a great motivator.
In running (and walking) our feet are going to fall. It’s natural. It’s gravity. They are going to return to the ground. We can’t control that. But we can control whether or not we keep picking them back up. Step after step. Stride after stride. Each is a choice-an effort-we make.
In the wise words of my father, you gotta keep moving forward.
And yes, this is a metaphor for more than just personal mobility. Are you continuing to pick your feet up? Are you making the choice? Are you putting in the effort?
What Has Me Curious Right Now
What will the world look like post-pandemic?
What businesses and industries will be left? What accepted norms of the workplace will finally be revisited in the face of modern technology? Will human interaction become more valuable/sought after since it has to be avoided by force and not choice during this time? How will supply chains reinvent themselves (hopefully in a distributed fashion)? What political and societal cracks will turn into chasms and what will be the fallout?
This pandemic is both unifying and dividing. And rather unprecedented in modern times. There is no agenda attached to it. No inciting power. No common enemy other than the way of life. Will this serve as the wake up call we need? Or will it further fuel the xenophobic populist spiral we’ve been stuck in? It is certain the world will be different on the other side of this, only time will tell how different. Until then: wash your hands, don’t touch your face, stay distant, stay safe.
