Odeuropa Spring Newsletter 2021
Dear friends,
Welcome to the first Odeuropa Newsletter! We are delighted to have this space to update you on our research capturing the olfactory heritage of Europe and to share news and events related to the olfactory heritage community.
We're organising a few events this Spring. First in line is an academic workshop on "Multisensory Data & Knowledge", organised together with the Polifonia project and held in conjunction with the annual Language Data and Knowledge conference in September. Please consider submitting a paper! The submission deadline is 30 April.
To follow up, we are finalising a spectacular line up of speakers for Odeuropa's Smellinars, a series of talks about smell, history and heritage. The sessions will be available to anyone with an interest in these themes and will start before the summer; we will share the programme and access information shortly.
For those of you who have reached out to us or were thinking of doing so, we have just launched the Odeuropa Network to stay connected and promote conversations about olfactory heritage. To join, fill in this form.
Since the official start of Odeuropa in January, our multidisciplinary team of researchers have been laying the groundwork for our first project deliverables, starting with a taxonomy and an annotation scheme for olfactory references in historical texts and images. You can read more about this work in our blog posts Understanding the Olfactory Lexicon and Finding references to smell in artworks.
We are extremely grateful for the attention and interest the project receives from the media, including a recent video on French/German TV Arte.
See you in the summer! In the meantime, follow us on twitter and visit the Odeuropa website for more news.
Fragrant greetings,
The Odeuropa team
