Wrth i'r afanc Ewrasiaidd gael ei hadfer yn gynyddol ledled Prydain, mae ei werth fel gyrrwr newid ecolegol a buddion bioamrywiaeth yn cael ei gydnabod fwyfwy. Mae’r gweithdy undydd ar-lein hwn yn archwilio hanes afancod – eu difodiant bron yn llwyr i’w hadferiad o’r oes fodern, eu hymddygiad a’u bioleg, eu hecoleg a’u heffeithiau posibl, ynghyd â’u statws cyfreithiol gydag opsiynau lliniaru posibl. Mae Dr Roisin Campbell-Palmer wedi gweithio’n uniongyrchol gydag afancod am y 15 mlynedd diwethaf gan gynnwys ymchwil a monitro, trapio a thrawsleoli, gweithio gyda thirfeddianwyr i annog cydfodolaeth trwy gymhwyso amrywiol dechnegau lliniaru, a chynghori ystod eang o randdeiliaid. Diwrnod Rhuban Gwyn
Mae Cyngor Sir Ceredigion yn atgoffa pobl sydd wedi’u heffeithio gan gam-drin domestig nad ydyn nhw ar eu pen eu hunain y Diwrnod Rhuban Gwyn hwn. Mae Diwrnod y Rhuban Gwyn yn annog pobl, yn enwedig dynion a bechgyn, i newid yr ymddygiad a’r diwylliant sy’n arwain at gam-drin a thrais yn erbyn menywod a merched. Mae Diwrnod y Rhuban Gwyn eleni, 25 Tachwedd, yn disgyn ar yr un wythnos â dechrau Cwpan y Byd dynion FIFA. Thema cyfryngau cymdeithasol yw cyflawni #TheGoal i roi terfyn ar drais yn erbyn menywod a merched. Dywedodd Geraint Edwards, Swyddog Arweiniol Corfforaethol ar gyfer Gwasanaethau Pobl a Threfniadaeth: “Mae’r Cyngor yn falch o gefnogi Diwrnod y Rhuban Gwyn, sydd â’r nod o roi terfyn ar drais dynion yn erbyn menywod. Mae staff ar bob lefel wedi cael hyfforddiant ymwybyddiaeth ac mae mynd i’r afael â cham-drin domestig yn flaenoriaeth bwysig i bawb yn y Cyngor.” Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Bryan Davies, Arweinydd y Cyngor ac Aelod Cabinet dros Wasanaethau Democrataidd, Polisi a Pherfformiad a Phobl a Threfniadaeth: “Mae cam-drin domestig yn fater cenedlaethol ac yn anffodus mae’n effeithio ar lawer o bobl yng Ngheredigion. Fel sir, mae’n hollbwysig ein bod yn dod at ein gilydd a siarad yn erbyn trais gwrywaidd tuag at fenywod a merched. Gall pob dyn a bachgen wneud gwahaniaeth, trwy feddwl am eu hymddygiad a’u hagweddau eu hunain a bod yn barod i alw am ymddygiad niweidiol pan fyddant yn ei weld.” Hoffai’r Cyngor ddiolch i’w bartneriaid gan gynnwys Heddlu Dyfed Powys, Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Hywel Dda, a’u rhwydwaith o sefydliadau trydydd sector, grwpiau cymunedol, ac elusennau am gydweithio i ddarparu cymorth a chefnogaeth i ddioddefwyr a goroeswyr cam-drin domestig yng Ngheredigion. . Eurasian Beaver Workshop, Friday 2nd December
As the Eurasian beaver is increasingly being restored across Britain, its value as a driver of ecological change and biodiversity benefits are increasingly recognised. Beavers are now a protected species in Scotland and England, though their distribution remains fairly limited in extent. The presence of this species generates both opportunities and challenges, especially as it was extinct to British landscapes for nearly 4 centuries. This one-day online workshop examines the history of beavers – both their near complete extinction to their modern era restoration, their behaviours and biology, their ecology and potential impacts, along with their legal status with potential mitigation options. A range of visual material will be presented and discussed, including British case studies, a virtual field-sign walk in a beaver wetland, quiz and discussion sessions. Dr Roisin Campbell-Palmer has worked directly with beavers for the last 15 years including research and monitoring, trapping and translocation, working with landowners to encourage co-existence through the application of various mitigation techniques, and advising a wide range of stakeholders. She has recently joined the Beaver Trust as Head of Restoration.

Natural colonisation as a method of woodland creation and expansion
Forest Research are asking land managers to provide their opinions about natural colonisation as a method of woodland creation and expansion. This article helps set the context natural colonisation as a strategy for woodland creation and expansion - Forest Research For this phase of the work they are looking for land managers to take part in a 30-60 minute online (or telephone) interview and would be really interested to hear Local Nature Partnership and Local Authority perspectives. There are no right or wrong answers to the questions in the interview and they are looking for a diversity of opinions and perspectives. Please see the project website for more information, and if you have any questions or are interested in taking part please don’t hesitate to get in touch with katy.spencer@forestresearch.gov.uk
Consultations
Grey Squirrel consultation
UK scientists have proposed gene drive as a management tool to control grey squirrels. Now is a good time to talk about this emerging technology because the hopes and concerns of experts, stakeholders and the public can help to determine if or how it might be developed. To help foster this debate, Team Gene Drive Governance made a short research film on gene drive grey squirrels. The film draws on social science research to show the complexity of the problem of grey squirrel control and invites you to think about whether scientists should develop gene drive squirrels or not. Ceredigion Local Well-being Plan 2023-2028
The draft is now out for Public Consultation and is open until 31st of January 2023. The plan has been developed in accordance with the findings made in the Assessment of Local Well-being 2021-2022, with support from PSB colleagues, along with advice from the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales and through engagement events held over the past few months. Ceredigion County Council are welcoming comments on the draft Plan ahead of the final publication. Responses can be given online or by downloading the response form and returning it by email or post to the address at the end of the form. Further information can be found on Ceredigion County Council’s Consultations page and on the Public Services Board website. If you need to get in touch or need information in other formats, please contact 01545 570881 or clic@ceredigion.gov.uk. Natural Resources Wales Corporate Plan
NRW invite input to development of their next Corporate Plan, which will run from 2023-2030. The attached slides outline the high-level content of the draft Corporate Plan and, having looked at these, they would like you to complete a short survey please – this should take no more than 10 minutes or so. The survey will close on 6th December. Corporate Plan survey
Are their Vision and Mission, Objectives and the high-level steps they intend to take easy to understand? Do they clearly contribute to 2030 and 2050 national and international commitments? Can you see common ground and opportunities for organisations to work together to meet those commitments – in other words do they feel right and appropriate to you?
Please note they are considering social justice / equality for communities to be an important theme throughout the whole of the Corporate Plan, rather than singling it out as a separate Well-being Objective - it should feature across all NRW’s Well-being Objectives. The Corporate Plan is a work in progress: they want it to be ambitious but achievable and show NRW’s contribution to the Well-being of Future Generations Act’s Goals, tackling the nature and climate emergencies, acting on the outcomes of national and international agreements and continuing their commitment to delivering the sustainable management of natural resources. It needs to help us all in Wales collectively reach 2030 targets and help set us on a sustainable pathway to 2050 by representing what the people and the natural environment in Wales are saying. NRW will use your feedback to finalise the Corporate Plan for sign-off by our Board and the Minister in the Spring. Corporate Plan survey

The next application window will open on 5 December 2022 and will close on 10 March 2023. The scheme offers support for existing growers to invest in equipment and technology to improve production efficiencies and product quality, contributing to the supply of quality home grown trees to meet tree planting demand. The link to the previous application window is found at Horticulture Development Scheme: rules booklet | GOV.WALES . This sets out what is currently supported. The Scheme booklet will be amended to reflect the eligibility of Welsh tree nurseries in advance of the next application window, but please note the application and associated guidance will remain relatively unchanged. However, the application questions and requirements are still relevant to tree nurseries.
If you intend to apply, please note you may need to register your business details in order to apply. Information on how to do this is set out in the current scheme booklet found in the above link. Queries on the scheme and eligibility criteria can be sent to horticulture@gov.wales.

White Ribbon Day
Ceredigion County Council is reminding people affected by domestic abuse that they are not alone this White Ribbon Day. White Ribbon Day encourages people, especially men and boys, to change the behaviour and culture that leads to abuse and violence against women and girls. This year’s White Ribbon Day, 25 November, falls on the same week as the start of the FIFA men’s World Cup. The social media theme is to achieve #TheGoal to end violence against women and girls. Geraint Edwards, Corporate Lead Officer for People and Organisation Service, said: “The Council is proud to support White Ribbon Day, which aims to end men’s violence against women. Staff at all levels have undertaken awareness training and tackling domestic abuse is an important priority for all within the Council.” Councillor Bryan Davies, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Democratic Services, Policy and Performance and People and Organisation said: “Domestic abuse is a national issue and sadly affects many people in Ceredigion. As a county, it is vital that we come together and speak out against male violence towards women and girls. All men and boys can make a difference, by thinking of their own behaviours and attitudes and being prepared to call out harmful behaviour when they see it.” The Council would like to thank its partners including Dyfed Powys Police, Hywel Dda University Health Board, and their network of third sector organisations, community groups, and charities for all working together to provide assistance and support to victims and survivors of domestic abuse in Ceredigion. A special thank you goes to West Wales Domestic Abuse Service for their kind donation of White Ribbons and for their ongoing commitment and support to survivors and victims of domestic abuse in Ceredigion.
