Hello, all! Haven't uh done much over here again. I keep meaning to come back to writing more about The Footballerinas and continue the deep dive self-awareness posting I started, but alas, yet again, maybe another time.
The news today are short, so let's get to them.
Bannerless short bit of news first: after all the babbling I did last time about A&C's new CMS, I switched to Toocheke in the end. One reason was because Comic Control decide to start borking, and when I sent an email, the uh email bounced back saying that the website no longer existed. Effectively it didn't. I sent an email to Hiveworks and I have yet to receive a reply (it's been almost a year) but the day after, the site was back up with no real fanfare. Coincidence? Sure, why not lol.
Anyway, the main dev clearly moved on, given that people still make issue requests over on Github and they all keep being ignored. Though I will say, it was also funny when the main dev still replied, at how I was soundly ignored with an issue I had while everyone else got a reply at the time xD
So yeah, I may have wasted a year and a half's worth of work on Comic Control and the bitterness of switching to Toocheke is that all that amount of work...was done in almost half an hour with Toocheke. AMAZING, AIN'T IT! XD It's not exactly as I want it because the main menu still looks weird, and when switching to bilingual, it's only the page that changes, not the entire website. I'd like to change the entire website and I think I asked the dev if it was possible to do that and apparently it would be too much work? I think? It's been ages, so who knows, but I'll have to contact him again eventually. Either way, he's done great work on Toocheke and so far, I recommend it! IT'S ALSO GREAT ON MOBILE, and since that's always been a thorn on my side, I'm marrying it lol.
Here's how A&C currently looks.
Now if only I made new comics...
Hooray! My main website has been updated! IT'S PRETTY, AIN'T IT?!
I'm going to be frank, I hate Wordpress. Rather, I like Wordpress because it is very useful and easy (how else would A&C's site exist) but I hate it because for the amount of hammers I take at the customization wood, it starts borking on itself or taking it upon itself to make edits in a way only a mother would love. Specific example: thinking that what I wanted were small texts after telling it to do big texts in nav links and then small logo on mobile. Menus were always the worst...
Of course, that's before we get to the whole mobile thing. "Design for mobile first," more like eat my shorts. It's extremely noticeable when you design for mobile first, because sure the site may work, but it also looks boring and also doesn't work on computer. I can't tell you the amount of sites I've forgotten just because they're all huffing the minimalist aesthetic + mobile first design, and then on top of that, making it impossible to navigate on desktop. But hey, at least I can see it on my phone!
(If it loads.)
I digress. Point is, I was tired of updating the site only when I wanted to change how it looked. To be fair, I initially made the first version with Adobe Muse, which was an awesome program that was a mix of Photoshop slices + Dreamwaver. Basically you'd design the whole thing, put in specific CSS or HTML, put in your links, make sure it all looked good and bam! It'd make your own site complete with the rest of the HTML/CSS/JS code! No extra brain power! In hindsight, it was a static site generator before those started to get big. Naturally, Adobe shuttered it only a year after I started using...Imagine how much moolah they'd make now. Actually competing with Astro, for example. Nahhh, that's stupid. (/s)
The best part too was that it had a mobile and desktop version, so you could design/code for BOTH at the same time. It made for great consistency <3
So yeah, I switched to Wordpress after Muse and well, I'm done lol. I want to update my site constantly without having to justify it with a new web design and that's my new goal now: have a website that may lack the shiny stuff (and where I have to make my own RSS feed now...hope it works) but it works to my standards, looks good, can be updated without issue constantly and actually works on different devices without making me have an aneurysm.
It was hard to get this site up but it was worth it. I actually understood how a lot of things finally worked, and I finally also learned what the hell was a tooltip XD After so many years! But I hope everyone enjoys it! And let me know what you think in my Guestbook, mayhaps~
That's it from me. We'll see how long it takes me to put another one of these out lol. Have a good one!
