What makes or breaks your ballet experience?

I see dancers achieving longevity in their bodies and artistic hearts with a different kind of ballet lifestyle.

Hi ,

I haven’t written about this much, but around the time I graduated from professional ballet school and was getting my foot in the door with professional companies, I hit a really hard wall. Family stress, injuries, physio that missed the mark, and classes that didn't suit my needs took a toll on my innate coordination, and my dancing fell apart. I wouldn’t have been able to continue if I hadn’t gotten customized advice and learned how to self-empower my dancing.

That's why I'm so passionate about working with dancers as individuals. I've seen in my own life and that of my students, what goes into making or breaking your ballet experience.

I've seen injured dancers struggle after "successful" physio. Their pain's reduced enough for day-to-day activities, but it's still limiting their dancing. Returning to full class, able to finally let go and trust your body again needs ballet-specific rehab.

I've seen creativity sapped when dancers plateau at certain levels or with a challenging step. They need to fire up functional movement patterns and weave them into their ballet technique.

I see dancers struggling to fit it all in. The more you dance, the more body care you need, but who has time and energy for more conditioning? Even if you manage for awhile, over-training risks injuries, persistent fatigue, and losing touch with your love of dance.

I've also seen the joy on dancers' faces when they get their groove back. When they start feeling their body move how it's supposed to, so they can focus on doing what they love.

I see their lives open up when they replace hours of conditioning (or lying on the couch trying to convince themselves to dust off the foam roller) with short and sweet body care that fits into their busy life.

Our go-go-go culture tells us that if you keep showing up, you’ll break through the plateau, but I've never seen that serve dancers in the long run. Inevitably, they hit a wall via frustration or injury. I do see dancers achieving longevity in their bodies and artistic hearts with a different kind of ballet lifestyle.

Dancers find their flow when they're intentional about:

  • finding support to work smarter, not harder

  • knowing what to focus on in class and how to self correct for those goals

  • building reliable neural pathways that weave into their ballet technique so they can stop micromanaging every muscle and focus on self expression.

Private lessons help you get your ballet groove back, and they’re on sale until August 31.

One of my favourite things about teaching in person was having students grab me for some quick advice before or after class, so I’ve opened up a bunch of slots for free Zoom calls until the 31st.

I'm more than happy to share pointers on what you can do yourself to find that expressive and energizing ballet flow, and how private lessons can take you a step further. If you wanna dive deeper, you can grab the sale price on class packs and book your sessions for the fall term.

Book your free, no-pressure call here.

'Til next time,

Natasha
