Nominate Montavilla Brew Works own, Michael Kora (brewer/founder) for Montavilla's Entrepreneur of the Year!
The Montavilla Neighborhood Association is accepting nominations for the Montavilla Community Awards. There are multiple categories to cast your vote towards, but we're asking your help with only two: Neighborhood Entrepreneur of the Year (Michael Kora) and Neighborhood Business of the Year (Montavilla Brew Works).
Michael is an outstanding recipient for this award because of his unwavering dedication to his business that once was his hobby: brewing BEER! While persevering through a long, embattled construction build-out, Michael was determined to re-purpose the neglected Daugherty Auto Service Garage at
SE 78th & Stark into a usable space for his community. Running a start-up business is full of challenges everyday, but the renovation has been rewarding and the promise for growth and local employment at the brewery is being fulfilled.
Living in Montavilla for over 10 years, Michael and his wife Melissa have been excited to watch the neighborhood continue to flourish. Opening a brewery is a dream come true for Michael and the taproom is rapidly becoming more and more like Montavilla's cozy, community living room.
Michael has flexed his creative muscle by collaborating with local businesses to brew special, local, neighborhood-focused beers; most notably the "Plywood Pilsner" with Mr. Plywood, "Bipartisan Porter" with Bipartisan Cafe and "Fat Tribble Ale" with East Glisan Pizza Lounge. As a business, Montavilla Brew Works has shown immediate community involvement by supporting local non-profit and grassroot organizations in an effort to support fundraising and awareness campaigns. Notable partners have included: Montavilla Farmer's Market, Montavilla Food Co-op, Taborspace, NAMI, Mercy Corps, Friends of Mt. Tabor, Weed Warriors, the Oregon Gay and Lesbian Lawyers Association and several local school fundraisers.
Michael loves his neighborhood and loves his work and there aren't too many times you visit the brewery and he is not there. He is deeply humbled by his patrons appreciation for the challenges he has overcome in order to turn a neglected auto garage into a beautiful work of art. Please join us in voting for Michael Kora for Entrepreneur of the Year and for his baby, Montavilla Brew Works for Neighborhood Business of the Year!
