Hey everybody,
It's no secret to many that one of my favorite beer styles is Barleywine. It is perhaps the strongest beer/ale produced by any brewery. Ours is 10% ABV! We brewed this year's vintage in February and put the lot of it into Eastside Distilling Bourbon Barrels a month later. On the day we were filling the barrels, we learned that a good friend and local brewer had passed away. Ben Flerchinger was a workhorse in the Oregon Craft Beer Scene and worked at breweries like: Lucky Lab, Gigantic Brewing and 54'40" in Washougal. Ben was instrumental in helping me with many techniques that I currently employ as the Head Brewer at Montavilla Brew Works. He also LOVED barleywine. So, we're dedicating this brew to him.
Please join us this Wednesday, the 14th at 5pm as we pull samples from the bourbon barrel where Ben's Barleywine is currently aging.
4 ounce samples will be available for $3. We will in turn donate all the proceeds from these purchased samples to Ben's surviving wife, Margaret, and her family. So, feel free to kick in a few extra bucks to help out with the medical bills that Margaret has been left with.
We miss Ben a ton. He was a great guy, a steady brewer and a warm, gentle human being. Come raise a small glass of strong beer with us and please help us support his loving family: Wednesday, June 14th 5pm-8pm.
