Farewell Gigablast (for now?)
Dear Mojeek Community,
In this newsletter we say goodbye to another search engine; one which, like us, took the harder route of actually building an index, instead of relying upon Google or Bing. It was disheartening to see so few mentions of its sudden disappearance, and so we felt it only right to put something out about it.
We’ve also included our lastest updates post, a piece on the Mojeek API, and an important tip you might find useful when using Mojeek.
Farewell Gigablast (for now?)
When Mojeek started it wasn’t Google that was seen as our competitor. Having been developed and run by a single person, there was only one true yardstick for us, and that was Gigablast. A Mojeek Tip
Mojeek uses lexical not semantic search. In other words Mojeek looks for explicit matches to the words or phrases in your search query. These search queries are compared with text in the webpages that we have indexed and their incoming links.
Mojeek does not attempt to interpret meaning from your query. So you should be explicit about what you are seeking.
