WAS THE COMICS BOOK CODE EFFECTIVE?

I was wondering what comics were like before the comics book code was implemented and why it’s no longer used. It was implemented in 1954 and remained in use until around 2011. Its intent was for industry to be self regulating, and thus minimize government interference with comic book publishers. Along the way I read 6 issues of a precode crime-based comic, and also found some unexpected tie-ins to Mad magazine. Read about my findings here.
