Thinking Inside and Outside the Box Newsletter 002 March 2024

Thanks to all of you that are supporting this journey of mine and please...if you have a friend that might enjoy this newsletter please forward to them.

I appreciate you all.

ADMINISTRIVIA

The email link on my website is now working.

VISUALS

Here's some of my favorite recent images.

These are my iPhone photos of the 2023 Pendleton Roundup

I've seen this on several web pages. Original source unknown.

BOOKS

I've transcribed my notes from several books and am in the process of migrating them to my online Obsidian database for further use. Further use might include inspiration and source material for longer writings or future blog posts.

UPDATE: I've just been through these notes again this morning (February 29-I've been looking forward to writing this date for the past four years!) and am finding lots of common ideas in the areas of learning, creativity, life, leadership, and so on. Look forward to upcoming material on those topics.

Cats Cradle

Enders Game

Backstage Passes

Slaughterhouse Five

American Colonies

FITNESS

What started off as a post to my fitness class peeps on pushup technique is evolving into a series of articles about doing various exercises safely and effectively. Here's what I've covered so far.

Tune Up Your Lunge Technique

Mastering the clean and press

Let's Talk Pushups

FOOD

I published a couple of recipes that I'm now claiming as original since I've changed them so much from their original source. Both are vegan curries. I didn't plan it that way, but that's how it worked out.

Peanut Tofu Broccoli Curry

Vegan Peanut Lentil Curry

GAMES

My 3D printer has been busy making inserts for the Plum Island Horror

I also spent a wonderful afternoon with friends revisiting Thunder Alley and 7 Wonders. These are games that I used to play often, but not since COVID 19 disrupted our world.

JOURNALING

I've been revisiting cartoonist Lynda Barry's books and am reminded how effective her writing exercises are

  • journaling

  • Idea Generating

  • Story Making

These exercises don't require much time and they help you dive deep into your creative brain. Powerful stuff. Of course, sometimes unexpected things happen.

How Do I Put My Fountain Pen Back Together?

WRITINGS

Here's a short piece I was inspired to write. Subscriber Jenny says it could be a Portlandia skit. I'll take that as a compliment.

See y'all next time.
