    SKETCHBOOK REVIVAL BINGE FEST

There are several annual events in the art making world, many of which attract people interested in improving their skills. One that I recently learned about is the Sketchbook Revival Binge Fest-a 14 day challenge to have fun, learn some new techniques, and ultimately to fill your sketchbook.

You can read more about my journey here. A couple of samples are shown below.

EXPERIMENTS IN GOUACHE

Gouache (goo-aash or gwash) is an artistic medium similar to watercolor, but less transparent and more quickly drying.

Following is an example. The book that I studied from, as well as the later exercises is shown here. Part 1 of my foray into gouache is here.

24 THINGS TO ENTER INTO YOUR COMMONPLACE BOOK

commonplace book supplies

Commonplace books have been a frequent topic in my blog and in this newsletter. I recently listed some ideas for the types of things that you can enter into your commonplace book. You can read more here.

An article about getting started with commonplace books can be found here.

Some ideas for keeping your commonplace books organized are here and here.

AN UPDATE ON MY COLLEGE LEVEL MATH STUDIES

I’ve recently completed five 10 week terms of calculus and linear algebra, as prep to begin studying more advanced physics. You can read about the how and the why here, and perhaps even learn why people learn this stuff in the first place.
