Thinking Inside and Outside the Box Newsletter 001 February 2, 2024
January turned out to be a little busy as I got this blog restarted, took ownership of allenmartin.org, and had to relearn some elementary stuff about internet domains, web hosting, and newsletter services along the way. This newsletter contains some highlights from the past month or so from the blog.
It's Groundhog Day today. I didn't see what Puxatawney Phil predicted for the rest of winter. At least not yet.
FITNESS
Did some research on the how's and why's of pushups.
LEARNING
I restarted senior auditor classes at Portland State University. My immediate, or shorter term goal is to learn modern, or quantum physics but my math skills and knowledge are a little rusty. So, starting with Calculus 1--which I last took as a high school senior.
There's a quiz every Wednesday. Here's the first one.
READING
In addition to rereading some Vonnegut books (more on that in the coming months), I completed two other books worth mentioning.
In this I compare several different perspectives on whether there is symbolism in literature.
And I reread how to take smart notes, to continue to focus and improve my note taking skills.
I just realized that there were a few more that I read, but didn't yet write a review about them. Whoops. It will have to wait until next time.
OTHER THOUGHTS
No New Years Resolutions, but I did do this goal setting exercise by Ali Abdaal to help time stamp some areas of interest.
I'm also trying to improve my penmanship. Starting with this.
If you enjoy reading this, tell a friend. Maybe they will enjoy it too.
