Modern Medieval

by David M. Perry and Matthew Gabriele

So, if you’re long-time followers of this newsletter (even perhaps way, way back to when we started it on another platform), you’ll note that the posting and writing has been… kind of erratic.

There are times when the posts come fast and furious and times when the posts are a trickle. I mean, we get busy! But we aim to fix that.

Beginning now, in October 2025, you’ll get more Modern Medieval and more regularly.

Every Monday, there’ll be a newsletter post. We aim to keep the same general breadth of things we write about - references to the medieval in news of the modern world, neat archeological discoveries, interesting new research being published, medieval museum exhibitions, interviews with authors, etc. Now, you’ll just know when to expect it and have (we hope!) a fun treat to start your week with.

I keep two dictionaries by my computer. I use Dr Johnsons Dictionary of the English Language 1755 revised 1773 to understand the constitution without the sophisticated argument of the judicial clerics. Antonin "Torquemada" Scalia was the master of Sophistry, the constitution does not recognize Roman Catholicism as a virtue worthy of judicial office. I know conservative means from God down and liberal means free to evolve and cabal means the same thing it meant 2000 5000 and 20000 years ago. Cabal means Beware of strangers they are going to eat you and molest your women. https://johnsonsdictionaryonline.com/views/search.php?term=conservative https://johnsonsdictionaryonline.com/views/search.php?term=liberal https://johnsonsdictionaryonline.com/ My other dictionary was also available online https://archive.org/details/doubterscompanio00saul/page/n7/mode/2up I am 77 and Asperger's Syndrome Autistic and school was cruel and unusual punishment and so they sent me to summer school to catch-up instead of to the library where I lived. I was always regarded with tremendous esteem for my intellect despite never being able to finish DeVry. I am not a scholar, I am very simple. Let us talk metaphysics. The economists working there and produced by it are as important to the stagnation of useful thought as the Schoolmen of the University of Paris were in the Middle Ages.
