An Update about What's to Come

Modern Medieval
by David M. Perry and Matthew Gabriele
This is a year of books.
That means that the newsletter is going to, unfortunately, have to be put on the backburner for awhile.
David will be maintaining the newsletter for the time being, but less predictably, as he angles towards the launch of The Public Scholar: A Practical Handbook, which comes out in April. David also has a new website where you can learn more about his workshops and keynotes - ask faculty and graduate school development admin, as well as teaching and learning center admin, to book him for a workshop and/or a talk!

David is also hard at work on his book on the history of masculinity, with hopefully more announcements to come. And, of course, he’s in the Twin Cities, and the occupation is fairly overwhelming.
Matt, as you know, has been launching his podcast “American Medieval” (now in it’s 3rd month!). You can listen to episodes on any podcatcher - PocketCasts, Apple, Spotify, Amazon, etc. - and also support the podcast, and get some cool stuff, via the show’s Patreon. It’s been fun, of course, but also a lot of work.

In addition, Matt is also working on another book - the details of which were just announced! This book — Violence: A Christian History - will be published by WW Norton in late 2027/ early 2028 (?). Very briefly, it’ll talk about the eruption of violence by Christians against those they considered enemies from the early years through now and include a theory on the conditions for its outbreak.
This idea has been percolating for some time and Matt’s excited to get some words down. That said, he needs to get some words down on the page…
For updates on what’s going on with both big projects, as well as other little ones, you can check out Matt’s own (not-as-fancy-as-David’s) website(https://profgabriele.com/)
We fully believe this will only be a temporary lull on the newsletter and it isn’t by any stretch of the imagination a Beatles things. Indeed, we’re gonna go fishing sometime this Spring/ Summer.
Until then, stay tuned, check out our websites and find us on Bluesky - David, and Matt.
