What's Up Wednesday #33 - Regrets of the dying, You are not behind, A dollar from 1980 to now
Happy Wednesday everyone!
☠️ Listening to what people regret when dying might be a good way to minimize your regrets in the future. The following bullets are from the book „Regrets of the Dying“):
- I wish I dared to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me
- I wish I hadn‘t worked so hard.
- I wish I had the courage to express my feelings.
- I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
- I wish that I had let myself be happier
However, it might be that when dying the perspective of life is vastly different than when living, so this is to be taken with a grain of salt. Still, the points focus on happiness, friends, and doing what you actually want. All topics certainly make sense to focus on a bit more.
🏃♂️ „I will tell you a secret. There is no other version of yourself, there is only the version sitting here right now. You are not behind (or, for that matter, ahead): you are exactly where you are supposed to be. So take a deep breath and relax. History is simply “all the data we have so far,” says venture capitalist Paul Graham. It may be worth looking at your history to learn more about yourself, but that learning stops when review turns to regret. So turn your eyes forward and focus on what you can change: the future.“ You are not behind
📈 This chart shows the prices change of things in the U.S. from 1980 to now (not inflation-adjusted, just the raw dollar value). More or less one dollar in 1980 is worth ~30 dollars in 2020 (not inflation-adjusted!).
I feel this comes down to one thing: Money you have when you are young is way more worth than money you will make later in your life. Not only when investing early but it also opens possibilities.
