Outlaws (Leeds) x Half Edge Thurs 9th November
Hey friends,
It's another exciting week on the gig front. Jodi and I are getting on the road on Thursday and taking the second iteration of our improvised AV live set over the Pennines to my favourite spot in Leeds, Outlaws Yacht Club. We're bringing the incredible kaprow with us from Manchester, whose last performance we caught at The White Hotel ended with a guy in the smokers yelling about Satan and repentance - clearly very affected by the whole thing. And we'll be joined there by one of my favourite musicians and a bonafide expert on electronic music history, Teresa Winter. Hope to see some Yorkshire folks along for it. Here are the details:
Outlaws x Half Edge, Thursday 9th November, 7-late

--
Outlaws and Half Edge invite you to an evening of esoteric drone experiments, hauntological anachronisms, and liminal sound-spaces.
Manchester duo Mike Smaczylo and Jodi Venca bring an improvised audio-visual live set built from the technological detritus of the last century. An esoteric music researcher and liminal aesthetician, respectively, their work together explores dislocated temporalities, disembodied sexualities, and the histories of techno-social mediation that formed our ultra-mediated world, conjuring sonic spectres from mid-century electronics equipment, vintage sound and video recording technologies and the time-bending, world building capabilities of the dub delay.
Joining them from Manchester, kaprow is an experimental multidisciplinary artist who uses kinetic home-made samples, ephemeral soundscapes and visual storytelling to create work that seeks to evoke a feeling of unease while pushing the boundaries of space and movement.
Leeds based composer and musicologist, Teresa Winter, is a mainstay on prism-pushing experimental labels Death of Rave, Kashual Plastik, and Boomkat’s in-house Editions imprint. With a PhD dissertation on the vitally important English composer and electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire, her work exists in conversation with the sonic and technological legacies of modernism, post-structuralist theory, and esoteric ritual practices.
Narr Shows
Jodi and I ended up being neighbours in the program on Narr last weekend, links to the shows here if you're after some uneasy listening to get in the mood.
