Half Edge with marjai tomorrow! // Peste, live folk set w/ Will Forrest - 23 december

Hey friends,

Final call for tomorrow’s party with marjai! Tickets can be found here or on the door at Partisan.

I’m going to take a little break from throwing parties in this format in the new year, as I contemplate turning 30 and the changes and opportunities that will entail. I’ve been doing this stuff for a little while now, all of it solo and all of it against a cultural and economic backdrop that feels increasingly hostile to DIY parties and local DJs. Relax! You won’t see me getting into brand partnerships or jumping on the big name cloutwagon, but I’ve been thinking about how to get back onto the ground and turning my focus further towards community and collaboration. Already seeing the incipient shoots of exciting new projects in the works with friends and I’m looking at restructuring my communications channels in ways that can reconnect with real people, outside the enclosures of online and the feudal tithes due to techno-barons in Silicon Valley. Sure, I’ve jumped from Facebook to Google, for now, but it’s a process…

In the meantime, if you wanna catch me in my comfort zone, playing all night long with a truly spectacular guest (on a bad boy 6 deck mixer!), do come down, I hope to see you there.

In other news, I have something completely different coming up very soon. On 23rd December, in the basement at Peste, I’ll be debuting a live folk set with my very old, very great, and very talented friend Will Forrest. With a number of instruments in tow (steel string, classical and electric guitars, dulcimer, banjo, and Irish whistle) we’ll be playing a semi-festive repertoire of very ancient songs that sound like they came from the psych rock era, and songs from the 60s and 70s that sound like they originated in the Merrie Englande of Elizabeth I. The whole thing came together from an idea in a rapid and intense flurry of creative energy and I’m really excited to let it flow out into the world. We’ll be joined by Morsel, who imo have given a massive and much-needed kick to Manchester’s live DIY scene, and who will be on DJ duties soundtracking the bar upstairs.

Hope to see you all soon,
