Fear, The Virus, and a Recipe for Peace
Greetings!
My church decided to livestream the service this Sunday.
Our kids have been consuming prodigious amounts of screen time over the last week, so we took a moment to sit and watch the church service screen as a family. I think grand total the whole family sat still for maybe 45 seconds...but it was long enough to snap this gem.
Apparently shirts and pants are optional when it's a livestream.
Our pastor spoke about the fear and concern many feel, and how routines have been disrupted. He taught on the parable of the weeds and the wheat...where the workers really wanted to pull up the weeds, before the master told them to wait. You must allow the wheat to produce, and if you try to pull the weeds out now you'll trample the wheat.
The lesson hinged around how we have evil and suffering in the world, how God is big enough for your questions about disease and other doubts, before closing with our role as believers.
Our role is to produce good fruit. We are to be fruitful wheat, to spread peace, not fear. To share the Light of the world with others with our social posts, our connection to family and friends, and in our reaction to this social change.
He closed with Numbers 6:24-26:
The Lord bless you and keep you, The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; The Lord turn his face toward you, and give you peace.
I was a bit inspired after that to release this week's Mighty Angel Podcast episode on Fear. With the coronavirus and social distancing going on, I hope this little talk is helpful.
You can find it here or wherever you listen to podcasts.
We discuss:
- Low grade continual fear versus acute one time fear, and how they are different.
- How to help kids face monsters in the dark
- Combating anxiety, including a recipe for thankfulness, prayer, and claiming a promise of peace
The first bit of audio is scratchy, I cleaned it up as best as I could, but thought the content was relevant to the times and hopefully useful.
I've also been working on getting the new website up...both the site and I are a work in progress. The end result will be a hub to view all episodes, be up to date on any announcements, as well as places for you to join the newsletter or donate to the show. Check it out, with all this coronavirus shut in time, no telling how much I'll get done on it!
We're legit, folks!
