No cops, no cages, no borders (more pottery)

There are a lot of causes that need our support these days, but I'll be donating my sales this weekend to families impacted by ICE in Minnesota.

A stack of ceramic cups with inset foot rings and slightly conic walls. The outsides are mostly bare clay with overlapping rings of grooved texture, but the top inch or two around the lip is glazed at an angle, as well as the inside. Some are chocolate brown with a green and black glaze that turns gold inside the lip, and some a lighter speckled brown with speckled blue glaze. All of them have hand-carved white inlay lettering that says no cops, no cages, no borders.
Fuck ICE, but not just ICE

There are a lot of causes that need our support these days. Today, any Kansas drivers with a trans history suddenly had their license revoked. I'll be donating to trans orgs in red states, as well as the Trans Continental Pipeline which helps people relocate. I’d encourage you to do the same.

But we’re not the only group under threat. As the month comes to an end, media attention is no longer on Minnesota, but ICE and CBP are still active – and our impacted neighbors there need help covering rent, groceries, and other expenses.

Any sales from art.miriamsuzanne.com between Feb 26-28 will go to support families at a south Minneapolis public school near friends of mine. You can also donate directly to the GoFundMe linked above.

Here are some other highlights in my shop currently:

An inset foot and rounded base leads to curvy concave walls with textured grooves running around the exterior. The inside and outer rim is dipped at an angle in white glaze, which breaks brown over the lip and texture – fading to blues at the edges where it meats a clear glaze outside. The handle is a circle with room for a couple fingers, embedded into one side. It has a thin profile, but a wide surface that is comfortable on the hand.
Trying out different mug and handle shapes
A set of two inverted angular salt and pepper shakers – one wide at the top, the other wide at the base – each with five holes, and a rubber stopper to close up the container. The porcelain gives it a bright white finish, with a clear gloss glaze, and a splash of blue cobalt wash.
I heard you like to shake salt n pepper

Also: your handwriting

An interlocking set of three angular soap dispenser bottles. The outer two angle in and back out, forming an hour-glass shape before coming in again to the bottle neck. The middle one angles out and back in, matching the angle of the others. They're glazed in a light blue, with darker blue inlaid child's handwriting that says sope, shaempo, and kindishinr
Shaempo to keep your hairs clean

Erin had the idea to ask a young friend of ours for hand-lettering, which I traced and carved into this series of dispenser bottles for sope, shaempo, and kindishinr. We also made “❤️ mom & dad” tumblers using her parent’s handwriting. If you want something similar, reach out!

Coming soon: light jars

A light blue porcelain jar with a lamp cord coming out the back. The jar has a deep texture carved in, and the word 'light' in darker blue inlay handwriting.
Just a jar with a label
The same jar at night, with the light on and the lid off. The entire jar glows warm and orange, with a bight light from the top opening.
Light it up

I’ve started making lamps with a lid, labeled so that you know what’s inside. These aren’t up for sale yet, but I’d love to hear from you if you’re interested in one! They’re made from translucent porcelain for a nice glow when closed, and then a more dramatic pop of light when open.
