The Métro Pirates Are Coming!

Your next connection: piracy.

I have some long-awaited news to share: my post-apocalyptic Montreal science fiction story “The Métro Pirates” about piracy and sandworm-subways in the STM metro system, will soon be out with the anthology Unréal!

The anthology cover has been revealed, and it is stunning! (And it reminds me, with feelings of climate-dread, of what the sky looked like this summer in the middle of forest fire season.)

The book is available on pre-order.

I’m super stoked my name will be in a table of contents with Rich Larson among others, and in an anthology edited by Su Sokol, who I’ve known for some time and is an important part of the Montreal science fiction/fantasy community. Paul Jarvey is the editor who worked with me, and we worked together to bring out the best in the finished story last year.

Order a copy of Unréal and you’ll receive a truly bilingual science fiction anthology, featuring stories in English, French, and one story in both languages at once.

I, for one, can’t wait to read every one of them.

This is my biggest coup to date. It feels like a special day in my writing career to finally see the cover of such a professionally published anthology and know my story will be in it.

"The Metro Pirates" by Matthew Rettino. Your next connection: piracy. Beneath Montreal, a secret subway leads to pirate coves and monstrous streetcare-sandworms. Escape the STM's watchful eye in a swashbuckling adventure full of humour, rebellion, and hope.
Aw yeeah.

The Risen City

In other news, my archaeological science-fantasy short story “The Risen City” is out with NewMyths.com!

It’s the story of an archaeologist on the newly risen continent of Atlantis tasked with keeping donors to her heritage conservation organization happy. Only problem is this donor also happens to have mining interests on the site of an Atlantean villa.

Also, orichalcum might be the key to unlocking quantum processing. And the Atlanteans might still have something to say about how they want their story told…

I will be bringing zines of “The Risen City” to Can*Con in Ottawa. I’m not on any programming, but I will be attending and meeting people in the Canadian sf+f community and hopefully picking up on the positive vibes around the forthcoming Unréal.
