Free Jikiden Reiki Day, Ciara is Leaving on Sabbitcal & Spotlight on Cranial Osteopathy
It’s rained every day of 2026 in the UK so far... so if you’re stuck inside on another rainy day, take five minutes to decompress and enjoy our February Newsletter discussing Cranial Osteopathy and the latest Marlborough House news.
Free Jikiden Reiki Event
On Sunday 22nd March, Marlborough House will be hosting a Jikiden Reiki Open Day from 12:00–17:30, led by highly experienced Jikiden Reiki teacher Amanda Jayne. The day is a chance to learn more about this traditional Japanese approach to Reiki, hear Amanda give a talk on its history, how it is used, and her own journey with the practice, and to ask any questions you may have. Throughout the afternoon, our practitioner, Liz Truman, and a team of 5–6 other Jikiden Reiki practitioners will be offering free 30‑minute taster sessions, working in pairs to provide a deeply nurturing experience in a short time. There are 10 bookable taster slots, with some availability likely on the day, and treatments will resume after Amanda’s talk for those who wish to try Jikiden Reiki for themselves. To reserve a free taster treatment, please contact Liz on 07597 681072.

Spotlight On: Cranial Osteopathy – What is it and who is it for?
Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a standard osteopathic appointment and cranial osteopathy? In this month’s newsletter, we’ll take a deep look at cranial osteopathy. What is it, who is it for and when to use it.
What Is Cranial Osteopathy?
Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle form of osteopathic treatment that uses light, sustained hand contact rather than stronger manipulation techniques. Our Cranial Osteopath, Lisa, works with the natural, subtle movements in your head, spine and body, feeling for areas of tightness or imbalance and encouraging them to release.
Despite the name, cranial osteopathy is not just for the head. The same gentle approach can be used throughout the whole body, supporting your natural healing processes and helping you feel more balanced, relaxed and comfortable.
Who Is Cranial Osteopathy For?
Cranial osteopathy can be suitable for almost anyone, but it is particularly helpful for:
Babies and children
Ideal for delicate, developing bodies. Parents often bring babies for issues such as unsettled behaviour, sleep disruptions or after a difficult birth experience.
Pregnant and postnatal women
Gentle support for back or pelvic discomfort, post-birth recovery and stress, using techniques that feel safe, nurturing and non-invasive.
Adults with headaches, jaw tension or stress-related symptoms
People with migraines, tension headaches, TMJ problems, neck and back pain, tinnitus or stress-related tension often find the quiet, calming approach helpful.
Older adults and those with fragile health
If you have osteoporosis, a long-term condition, are recovering from illness or surgery, or simply feel “frail”, cranial osteopathy offers a softer option when stronger techniques may not be appropriate.
Anyone with a sensitive nervous system
If you feel easily overwhelmed, anxious, wired but tired, or very reactive to more direct treatment, the gentle, regulating effect of cranial work can be a good fit.
Cranial vs Standard Osteopathy: When should you choose Cranial Osteopathy?
Standard (structural) osteopathy often focuses on joints, muscles and movement using a mix of stretching, mobilising and, where appropriate, stronger manipulation techniques. Cranial osteopathy uses the same underlying osteopathic principles but works in a subtler way, with light contact aimed at easing deeper patterns of tension and supporting the nervous system.
You might lean towards a cranial appointment if:
You are nervous about joint clicks or have found stronger treatment “too much” in the past
You are bringing a baby or child for treatment
You are pregnant, postnatal, older, or have osteoporosis or a complex health condition
Your main issues involve headaches, jaw tension, tinnitus, anxiety, poor sleep or stress overload
You simply prefer a quiet, gentle, nurturing style of treatment
