The Signal — Morning Briefing

By Mantis Money

MARKET SNAPSHOT

BTC is sitting at $81,630, down 2.0% on the day. ETH is taking more heat at $2,472, off 3.8%. Total market cap has slipped to $2.78T across a sprawling 22,087 active assets. The Fear & Greed Index reads 64 — still in Greed territory, which is worth noting given the sea of red. Markets are selling off, but sentiment hasn't cracked yet. Watch for that divergence to close one way or the other.

DEFI PULSE

Stablecoin routing is dominating on-chain volume right now. The top three pools by 24h volume are all stablecoin pairs — the Tether/Tether 0.01% pool on Uniswap v3 (Ethereum) led with $300.5M in volume against a TVL of $187.1M, a volume-to-TVL ratio that warrants a closer look. PancakeSwap's equivalent pair on Ethereum pulled $224.7M, and the USDT/USDS pool on Uniswap v4 logged $182.3M across 1,558 transactions with a 65% buy skew.

On Base, the xdp/USDC pool on Uniswap v3 is the eyebrow-raiser — $168.4M in volume against a TVL of just $1.7M. That's a 99x volume-to-TVL ratio and 370,752 transactions. Something is moving through that pool at scale, and it is not organic retail. The WETH/USDC 0.3% pool on Base also held up well at $113.4M volume with $146.6M TVL.

TOKEN MOVEMENTS

ZEC (Zcash) — down 10.7%. The steepest loss in the top 10, and it is trending on CoinGecko. No single catalyst confirmed, but privacy coin sentiment tends to move on regulatory noise or exchange delistings. Worth monitoring.

SOL — down 5.1%. Underperforming the broader market. The cbBTC/WETH pool activity on Base suggests capital is rotating toward Bitcoin-adjacent assets rather than alt-L1s.

BNB — down 4.8%. Heavier sell pressure than BTC, consistent with risk-off rotation out of exchange tokens during broad drawdowns.

FIGR_HELOC — up 0.8%. The lone green in the top 10 by market cap. Real-world asset tokenisation play. Modest gain but notable when everything else is bleeding.

TRUMP — trending on CoinGecko. No significant price data in today's feed, but the trend signal is there. Meme/political tokens tend to spike on news cycles, so keep an eye on the broader news environment today.

HEADLINE EVENT

Uniswap v4 is showing early traction with the USDT/USDS pool clearing $182.3M in 24h volume — significant for a relatively new deployment. The 65% buy skew on that pair suggests traders are actively positioning in stablecoins, likely as a defensive move during the market pullback. Whether v4 can sustain this volume as the broader market stabilises will be a key metric to track through the week.

THE ALPHA

That xdp/USDC pool on Base processed $168.4M in volume with only $1.7M in TVL and over 370,000 transactions in 24 hours. That is not normal pool behaviour. Alpha subscribers get today's full breakdown — who is routing through it, what the transaction pattern suggests, and whether this is an arbitrage loop, wash activity, or something else entirely.
