The Signal — Morning Briefing

By Mantis Money

MARKET SNAPSHOT

BTC is sitting at $79,230, down 0.9% on the day. ETH is holding relatively steady at $2,492.86, off 0.6%. Total market cap sits at $2.69 trillion. The Fear and Greed Index is reading 71 — still in greed territory, which is worth noting given that nearly everything in the top 10 is printing red this morning.

Nothing screaming panic, but broad softness across the board. The market is drifting, not collapsing.

DEFI PULSE

The standout number today is the BSW/USAD pool on Uniswap v4 (Base), which clocked $198.2 million in 24-hour volume against just $5.8 million in TVL. That is a volume-to-TVL ratio that demands attention — roughly 34x. Only 34% of transactions were buys, which tells its own story about the direction of flow.

Elsewhere, stablecoin pools dominated by volume. USDC/USDT on Uniswap v4 Ethereum did $81.2 million, and USDT/USDS followed with $63.9 million. Stablecoin rotation at this scale often signals that larger players are repositioning rather than deploying fresh risk. The WETH/USDC pairs across Base and Ethereum Mainnet combined for well over $150 million in volume, with buy/sell ratios hovering close to 50/50 — indecision, not conviction.

The RLUSD/USDS pool on Uniswap v4 is worth watching. $44.5 million in volume with only 232 transactions suggests very large individual swaps. Someone is moving size quietly through that pool.

TOKEN MOVEMENTS

ZEC (Zcash) — down 5.9%: The worst performer in the top 10 by a wide margin. Trending on CoinGecko alongside privacy-adjacent token Firo, which suggests the move may be sentiment-driven around regulatory or delistings chatter rather than a protocol-specific event. Worth monitoring.

SOL — down 1.9%: Broader risk-off pressure. Nothing protocol-specific apparent. The cbBTC/WETH pool on Base seeing $39.5 million in volume with 51% buys suggests some residual appetite for wrapped BTC exposure, but SOL is not catching a bid here.

BNB — down 1.8%: Tracking the broader market lower. No significant catalyst identified.

FIRO and PUMP trending on CoinGecko: Firo is a privacy coin picking up search traffic alongside Zcash. Pump.fun's token PUMP appearing in trending is notable given the ongoing debate around its business model and token utility. Neither movement is confirmed by major volume data yet.

HEADLINE EVENT

Zcash is the sharpest mover in the top 10 today, down 5.9% with privacy coins broadly trending on CoinGecko. The correlation between ZEC's drop and renewed interest in Firo suggests the market may be rotating sentiment around privacy assets rather than accumulating them. Regulatory pressure on privacy coins has been a persistent headwind in 2024 and 2025, and this kind of co-movement warrants watching closely over the next 48 hours.

THE ALPHA — PAID TIER

That BSW/USAD pool on Uniswap v4 Base pushed $198 million in volume against $5.8 million TVL with only 34% of transactions as buys. That ratio is unusual enough to warrant a proper breakdown. Alpha subscribers get the full pool analysis today — who is likely behind that flow, what the sell-side pressure implies, and whether this is a red flag or an arbitrage artefact worth exploiting.
