The Signal — Morning Briefing
By Mantis Money
Markets — as of this morning
BTC is sitting at $61,474, up 1.6% on the day. ETH is the standout, pushing to $1,702 with a 4.9% move in 24 hours. Total market cap holds at $2.21 trillion. Fear and Greed is pinned at 19 — Extreme Fear — which means the broader crowd is rattled even as prices tick up. Worth noting.
DeFi Pulse
Base is doing the heavy lifting right now. The cbBTC/USDC pool on Aerodrome logged $107.9M in 24-hour volume against a $9M TVL — that's a volume-to-TVL ratio that commands attention. The WETH/USDC pools across Aerodrome and Uniswap v3 on Base are also running hot, with combined volume pushing past $185M.
The headline oddity: the OpenAI/USDC pool on Uniswap v4 Base recorded $142.5M in volume on just $2.7M TVL, with a 24-hour price change of +99,196%. That is not a typo. This is a memecoin playing off the OpenAI brand, not anything affiliated with the company. The transaction count — 12,083 — tells you retail is piling in. Tread accordingly.
On Ethereum, stablecoin routing is churning quietly. The USDC/USDT and USDT/USDS pools collectively moved over $430M in 24 hours with minimal price deviation. Institutions are moving money, not making bets.
Token Movements to Watch
ETH — $1,702 (+4.9%): Sharpest move in the top 10. On-chain WETH flows are elevated across Base and Ethereum. Could be repricing ahead of a catalyst, could be a relief bounce. Pool data supports genuine buying pressure.
SOL — $80.94 (+4.1%): Trending on CoinGecko alongside PENGU. The Solana ecosystem is getting eyeballs again. $80 has been a line in the sand — watch whether it holds into the US session.
HYPE — $65.97 (+4.9%): Matching ETH's gain percentage-wise and sitting in the top 10 by market cap. Hyperliquid continues to attract on-chain derivatives volume. This one has been building quietly.
XRP — $1.082 (+1.9%): Steady. No obvious catalyst, but the persistent bid suggests accumulation continues at this level.
PENGU (Pudgy Penguins): Trending number one on CoinGecko. No price data in today's feed, but the search volume spike is notable. NFT-adjacent tokens can move fast when they catch a wave.
Headline Event
Three separate USDC transfers totalling over $626M were flagged in the last 24 hours between unknown wallets — all triggering red alerts in our system. A separate $43M USDT transfer also fired. The destination and source wallets remain unidentified at time of writing. Moves of this scale between unknown addresses during an Extreme Fear market environment are worth watching closely. Could be exchange rebalancing, could be something else entirely.
