The Signal — Morning Briefing
By Mantis Money
MARKET SNAPSHOT
BTC is sitting at $65,876, down 0.6% on the day. ETH is holding just under $2k at $1,927.74, up a modest 0.2%. Total market cap is $2.33 trillion. The Fear & Greed Index is at 33 — firmly in fear territory — which tells you the broader sentiment isn't supportive of any meaningful push higher right now. No panic, but no conviction either.
DEFI PULSE
The standout number today is the Claude/USDC 0.01% pool on Uniswap v4 Base. Volume hit $151.5 million in 24 hours against a TVL of just $3.2 million — a volume-to-TVL ratio that's essentially absurd — with a 24h volume change of 996,663%. Something detonated in that pool overnight, and it wasn't organic growth. We'll cover this properly in The Alpha below.
The more reliable signal is in the cbBTC pairs on Aerodrome (Base). The cbBTC/WETH and cbBTC/USDC pools pushed $68.2M and $67.4M respectively, with the cbBTC/USDC pool logging nearly 35,000 transactions. That's a lot of small tickets moving through wrapped Bitcoin on Base — worth watching as a proxy for Base ecosystem activity.
Stablecoin routing remains heavy. USDC/USDT on Uniswap v4 Ethereum cleared $88.1M, and PYUSD/USDS did $48.3M on just 221 transactions — massive average trade size suggesting institutional or protocol-level flows.
On-chain alerts are elevated. Multiple transfers of 9,278 WETH — roughly $17.9M each — fired repeatedly across the last 24 hours, all flagged as unknown wallet-to-wallet. That's the same amount, same wallets, multiple times. Could be internal treasury movement, could be something else. Alpha subscribers get the wallet-level breakdown.
TOKEN MOVEMENTS
- HYPE -2.4% — Worst performer in the top 10. Hyperliquid is still trending on CoinGecko but the price action isn't following. Sentiment and price diverging is worth tracking.
- XRP -0.7% — Quiet session, no obvious catalyst. Drift lower on low conviction.
- BNB -0.4% — Marginal bleed, broadly in line with the market.
- ETH +0.2% — Quietly outperforming BTC on a relative basis. Not much, but it's holding better than most.
- FIGR_HELOC +0.2% — Unusual to see a tokenised HELOC product appear in the top 10 by market cap. Worth noting as a real-world asset (RWA) data point, though volume context is thin.
HEADLINE EVENT
Ondo (ONDO) is trending on CoinGecko today alongside Pudgy Penguins (PENGU) and Sui (SUI), suggesting retail attention is rotating across RWA and NFT-adjacent narratives simultaneously. ONDO has been gaining ground as the tokenised treasury space picks up institutional interest, with several protocol integrations announced in recent weeks. The combination of RWA momentum and NFT-adjacent speculation trending together in a fear market is an unusual mix — usually one or the other.
THE ALPHA — PAID TIER
The Claude/USDC pool on Uniswap v4 Base printed a 996,663% volume spike overnight on $3.2M TVL. That's not a typo. Today's Alpha breaks down what actually happened in that pool — the transaction pattern, whether it's wash volume or a genuine launch event, and what the 50/50 buy-sell split tells us about who was on the other side. If you're trading on Base, you want this one.
