Malarkey Monday
Discounts, Free Books, Etc.
I’m thinking of how many emails will be deleted unread today, wondering about the odds of this making it through. If it does, if you open it, well you can get 25% off whatever on our website through Monday, and also through Monday we’re offering a complimentary complementary book with every order. Our literary sommelier, i.e. me, will select a book that goes well with your order. In some cases it might share a theme, a style, a geography; in other cases it might be so wildly different that it matches perfectly. I’ll do my best to make sure it’s a book you don’t have yet, although I can’t promise. I can check to see if you’ve ordered it from us before, but of course if you picked it up at AWP or a bookstore or ordered from Bookshop I won’t know (unless I remember selling it to you at AWP, in which case hi!).
The reason I’m doing it this way is, to be frank, my sanity. Last time we did a BOGO sale it was a lot of work keeping track of who requested what free book, and we ended up having to split up a lot of orders. This way I can make sure the free book can come from what I have in stock here, and plus people like surprises.
The code MALARKEYMONDAY will get you 25% off any order from our website, including book club. In the interest of full disclosure, I might be changine the prices on a few items, but only ones that are currently being offered at a discount. For example, Francis Top’s Lost Cipher, a new story collection from Craig Rodgers (out next month) has been on sale for $13. I turned off the sale price so it’s now back to the original retail price of $16. But you’ll get it for $12 with the discount code. I just want people to know that the discount is really a discount, and not us marking up the prices and then offering them artificially on sale.
I’ll also be adding an issue or two of King Ludd’s Rag to each order, plus a sampler of poems from Adrian Sobol’s forthcoming collection, Hair Shirt. Books by LJ Pemberton, Eric Williams, Austin Ross, and Leigh Chadwick will also come with a zine featuring their work. Speaking of Leigh, we have a few copies of the hardcover version of Your Favorite Poet available.

An update on Project Malarkey: as of this writing we are 33.9% of the way toward our goal of $11,500 to put toward printing books and paying writers in 2025. We have an array of rewards available: a t-shirt, a tote bag, books, a downloadable compilation featuring writing from several of our authors. I have also threatened/pledged that if we get halfway to our goal by Monday then I will finish writing a short story that I have been working on, in on notes on my phone and emails to myself, for over a year now, and include it in the sampler.

Thank you to everyone out there who has bought books in the past, everyone who is going to buy books right now as soon as they’re done reading this, everyone who has pledged to the kickstarter and everyone who is about to, and thanks to everyone who has shared info about one of our books, or read a story on our website, or downloaded some ebooks for free. Even if you’ve never bought anything, we are grateful for the shares and for the reads.
We have a great slate of books scheduled for next year, and we are excited to share them with you all. In the meantime, now is a great time to explore our existing catalogue and get some fantastic indie literature with equally fantastic savings. The 25% discount code, again, is MALARKEYMONDAY.
Thanks!
