Malarkey Forever!

I just sent out the file for Malarkey Forever, a digital sampler featuring the work of sixteen of our authors. It’s just under 33,000 words. Everyone who pledged to our (successful!) Kickstarter campaign received a copy, and I’m also putting it on our website as a download for $5: Malarkey Forever.

The material in this file is a bit of mix. There are a couple previously published stories, a couple excerpts from forthcoming books, but there’s also an excerpt from an unpublished novel, and some original stories that haven’t appeared anywhere else.

The authors donated their pieces for this project; proceeds will go back into the press, to cover website costs, printing costs, contest fees, ARCs, an endless array of miscellaneous costs, and filling in the gaps of really good books that haven’t sold very well. We do occasionally have titles that don’t sell enough copies to make back the costs that went into making them. While we have no regrets abut publishing them, it does make things challenging because while we don’t necessarily have to make much of a profit to keep this press running, we do need to not lose a lot of money. So having royalty-free items to sell (like the sampler, like t-shirts, like The Grift, like the tote bags) helps cover some of those losses.

I am really excited to say that Hair Shirt, our first title of 2025, is in production. It’s being printed by Bookmobile, out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and I think will represent a higher level of print quality than we’ve been able to offer in the past. In honor of that, we have printed the first run of copies (300 total) with French flaps with a bonus poem on one of the flaps. This will likely be the only print run with the flaps, as they do add considerably to the unit cost (i.e. how much each book costs to print). I suggest preordering, or reordering, yourself a copy, not only because it’s a limited supply and a cool edition, but because the book kicks ass. Adrian Sobol is a wonderful poet and everybody ought to be reading his stuff.

Thanks to everyone who supported the Kickstarter, to everyone who preorders books, to everyone who orders books a long time after they’ve come out, to everyone who shares and reviews and talks about the books, and thanks, especially, to you.
