Blue Jays in Cottage Country
One of the things I learned before I dropped out of journalism school was that stories had to be timely. I’ve always tried to not live by that rule, but I am breaking my own rule a little bit today in honor of the Toronto Blue Jays, who, for anyone who doesn’t follow baseball, are up 1-0 in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Back in 2021, so we’re actually not that timely, we published a short story in the fourth issue of King Ludd’s Rag called “Blue Jays in Cottage Country.” The thing that attracted me to the story right away was the title. I opened it up praying it was about the Toronto Blue Jays, and it was, being set against the backdrop of game 6 of the ‘93 World Series (Jays vs. Phillies) on the TV.
KLR #4 also features a short story by Christopher Stevenson, and while the current Series is on we’re going to include a free copy of KLR 4 with all in-stock print orders (so not including preorders of books that aren’t published yet). Or, again as long as the Series continues, you can download the issue for free.
As always, we offer free shipping on all ebooks, and we also keep them all priced pretty low, so feel free to browse our ever-expanding ebooks section.

World Series season is also a great time to sign up for the Malarkey Book Club. $120 will get you everything we publish in 2026: books by Joshua Trent Brown, Suzy Eynon, Mike Andrelczyk, and Roger Vaillancourt; three new issues of King Ludd’s Rag; Hellarkey #5; and four poetry EPs (aka zines featuring the work of a single poet)—and since we still have t-shirts left we are giving away shirts to new Book Clubbers.
