An Anti-Amazon Buy One/Get One Sale
In high school a couple of my friends worked at Macy’s in the mall. Actually it might have been called something else at the time, and then Macy’s bought it. I don’t really remember and it doesn’t matter because it’s closed now. It’s an empty space. Once a year there’s a big kids clothing sale that’s run out of the back door. Anyway, back in the day, though, Macy’s would have these big sales, and in the days leading up to them they’d quietly raise all the prices on inventory, so when the sale hit you’d see 40% off whatever, but it would be 40% off the jacked-up price, not the original retail price. That’s what my friends told me and I have no reason not to believe them, aside from the numerous times they did lie about something or were wrong about something, but forget about that. That goes against my point. My point being yesterday was Prime Day. Big day for everything being on sale on Amazon. Well we also decided to run a sale, without jacking up any prices. You don’t even need to use a discount code. It works like this: you buy a book, we send you another book for free. You’re welcome to make a request on the free book (leave a comment, reply on twitter, or email malarkeybooks@gmail.com), but if you don’t we’ll pick one for you. Most of the books that are preorders are also on sale anyway. If you want to use the BEACHREADS discount code you can; we’ll still send the free book.
Now that we are working with Asterism Books for some of our distributing, it’s no longer necessary for me to keep a big stock of books in my house, so I’ve been letting titles go out of stock on our website. But in the interest of this sale, I went ahead and marked everything as in stock, and I’ll order additional copies as needed. So pretty much everything is in stock with us.
I have fifty stickers on hand and will be including one in each pacage until they run out. Will also be sneaking zines in.
Today is Thursday, July 18. We’ll run this sale through Saturday. So any order that comes in through our website between now and 11:59 p.m. on July 20 will be eligible for the buy one/get one free deal. Great way to get some bonus literature in your life; great way to sustain a small press that depends entirely on sales for its existence.
