All or Nothing
We are 51% toward our all-or-nothing fundraising goal, with three weeks left. The best thing about if we make it is I won’t have to promote it anymore. That’s actually glib and untrue. The best thing is we will be able to print books the way we want to print them, and earlier than we normally get them done. We should have Hair Shirt and Boxcutters pretty much ready to roll by January 17, the date by which we have to have met our goal. If we fall short we’ll end up with nothing. So this post is a pretty naked appeal to pledge to Project Malarkey.
A rundown of rewards:
$5
A digital sampler—I will probably format it as an ePub rather than PDF so that it will be quick and easy for me to set up and more accessible for readers—featuring writing from a bunch of Malarkey writers. The doc is up to about 22,000 words, and I think the final version will be a bit longer still. I am also trying to finish up a short story to include. I think it would be great to have a lot of $5 pledges; one benefit would be that we don’t have to spend money on physical rewards, but even better is that it would show really broad support for our mission.
$10
A digital ARC. We’ll send you the book of your choice, in PDF or ePub format, before it comes out. We’ll also send the digital sampler.
$25
We have two options:
Book Mail: you’ll get to pick a book from out catlogue, and we’ll mail it to you. We’ll also send a couple zines along with it.
A Public Display of Gratitude: if you pick the Litmags Must Pay option we’ll thank you on our website and in King Ludd’s Rag.
$40
A book in a bag: you pick a book and send it to you along with a tote bag designed by Adrian Sobol.
$50
Again we have two options:
Zines club: The whole run of zines in 2025: this will be one issue of Hellarkey and four issues of King Ludd’s Rag. To save on shipping we’ll send in two bundles. You also get a t-shirt!
Ebooks for life: The Malarkey For All code will be retired, but for $50 we’ll send you a discount code that will ensure you free ebooks downloaded from our website. It will be good for any title we ever publish, past, present, future.
$99
Poetry bag: this is an incredible value. 5 books of poetry and our tote bag for $99.
$200
A t-shirt, all five books we publish in 2025, all the 2025 zines, and a handmade notebook.
$500
2025 book club, 2025 zines, t-shirt, tote bag, hand-made notebook, ebooks for life, issues 1-23 of King Ludd’s Rag.
$1,000
2025 book club, 2025 zines, t-shirt, tote bag, hand-made notebook, ebooks for life, issues 1-23 of King Ludd’s Rag, plus pretty much every book we’ve ever made.
We’ve tried to make a variety of options, and I think we’ve got some cool rewards lined up. I’m kind of sick of posting about and perseverating over this fundraiser, but it’s also incredibly important and has the potential to make Malarkey a better publisher. I’m really excited about the books we have lined up, and even more excited about potentially printing them with Bookmobile instead of Ingram. Malarkey is a completely independent press with a shoestring budget. I edit and manage the press as a volunteer, but we pay writers and cover designers. Every dollar that comes in to this press goes into making books that the big 5 don’t have the brains to publish. Anyway thanks for reading, happy holidays, and a merry new year!
