A Reading Tonight, and Also Books Books Books
Without, I hope, sounding alarmist, today’s email is kind of a naked plea to readers of the world to put money into the Malarkey coffers. We are forever on a shoestring, forever squeaking by. For every big haul from sales at Printers Row, there’s a bigger bill that needs to be paid right then.
Before we get into that, hey if you’re in Iowa go see Vi Khi Nao and Laura Paul and Steve Barbaro tonight at Porchlight. More details here.

Below are some ways that book lovers, small press lovers, can help Malarkey stay afloat:
Instant gratification for reader and publisher with some $5 downloads:
We don’t owe royalties on any of those; the $ goes right into the general fund, where it will quickly be eaten up by shipping costs or god knows what.
Buy Books, especially one of the books that we printed with Bookmobile.
We’re getting closer and closer to breaking even on this one!
Join the Book Club
For 2026, book clubbers will get books by Joshua Trent Brown, Suzy Eynon, Mike Andrelczyk, and Roger Vaillancourt, as well as three issues of King Ludd’s Rag, Hellarkey No. 5, and four poetry EPs (mini-zines featuring several poems by the same author).

In 2026 preorders will decide which books get print runs with Bookmobile. Right now the following titles are open for preorders (and will be signed by the author):

We are really proud and honored to still be making books. This will likely never be a profitable enterprise, but we always manage to bring enough enough to keep going, and as long as that’s the case we’ll keep going. We’ve just put more than 200 copies of Hellarkey volume 4 into the world. It cost us $400 for author payouts, another $500 for printing, don’t even ask about shipping. We gave most of those copies away, at Printers Row or paired with Lauren Bolger’s new book, so this is a big big thank you to everyone who dropped $8 to buy the print issue. Every order helps tremendously. We sent stickers and a copy of King Ludd’s Rag #24 with each one as bonuses. We’re out of print copies but the PDF can be had for $5.
Thank you to everyone who reads our books and zines, everyone who buys books and zines, everyone who tells their friends about them or shares them online. You make everything possible.
