44/ I want God to be an Elephant

A list of my favorite newsletters to start/end the year

Dall-e prompt: create an image of a herd of elephants swaying with massive elegance
A Memory of Elephants
by Sherman Alexie

I want God
To be an elephant,
But not an elephant
With God-like powers—

Just an everyday elephant.
Or better yet,
God should move
Randomly from elephant

To elephant to elephant
So that each elephant enjoys
And suffers a day of being
God. Why do I wish this?

Because I want God to be
As tangible as an elephant’s
Trunk and tusks. Because I want
God to sway with massive elegance.

It's More Than Just Vibes
Hello! It’s been a long time. I have been working hard on finalizing the book (woo, what a process) and a few other fun projects that will be launched next year. Thank you for hanging out :-) Ah, the Vibes. We are all sick of it. Dictionary.com published “vibecession” yesterday, which was WILD…

Stay-At-Home Macro (SAHM)
We are landing this plane, softly.

I explained how we got here in my recent interview with the Financial Times. 2024 is on track to be even better. Claudia Sahm is, perhaps to her chagrin, best known for creating the eponymous Sahm rule, a recession marker developed as part of a dis…

The Audacity.
The Audacious Book Club: Hot Springs Drive by Lindsay Hunter
In her debut novel Ugly Girls, Lindsay Hunter’s high school protagonists are both risk-takers from the jump. Perry has cultivated her loveliness alongside her depravity; Baby Girl, meanwhile, has cultivated ugliness along with a lust for chaos. The girls are lonely and bored, desperate for validation and distraction, and the dire state of their existenc…

Red Flag Alert – Let it Snow
When companies talk about targets or their “vision,” then suddenly don’t – and start mixing up metrics – the red flags get hoisted. Example: Vail Resorts (MTN), the largest operator of ski resorts, including the five most visited in North America…

Garbage Day
Goodbye 2023!!!
I Am So Annoyed I Have To Write This After today, I’m going dark until the first week of January. If you need me, I’m reachable on email and I’ll be lurking in the Discord, as well. The plan was to make today’s issue a fun round up of stuff everyone liked in the Garbage Day Discord. And that’s here too, further down below. But, unfortunately, it doesn’t j…
