"the west vs the rest" is a silly way to think about this article, comparing the top apps from emerging markets to their best ‘western’ comparison’. One could take each of these examples and examine why their success is somewhat-to-completely dependent on circumstances in their home markets (the 'western' successes have the same stories), which is what makes this list interesting. So ignore the forced competition and enjoy the learning.
