2024 Reviewed
2024 felt like it was 36 months packed into a single year. Here’s an quick extensive overview of all the MVKB projects that launched:
December 2023
(including the last month of 2023 because technically it was a year ago, and it was one hell of a busy month)
Event Horizon raffle got almost exactly 2000 entries and raving reviews by some of my favorite keyboard streamers (1, 2, 3, 4). I still can’t believe I accidentally designed a great keyboard. Hope to get the boards in your hands soon!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fBgnSwiJcsExpo and T3RMINAL group buys kicked off. 2 fully UV-printed GMK sets launching in the middle of the holidays was a huge risk, but both sets sold well and are personal favorites of mine.
Launchpad coasters were an experimental project Salvun and I worked on. They did surprisingly well, I hope to do more non-keyboard products in the future. (there are still some frosted ones available)
Polycarbonate artisans for Omnitype and Oblotzky went live in collaboration with ASCII R2.
January 2024
The MVKB logo reached its final form (for now).
MV Synth went live. Not for everyone, but I’m still proud of the art and theme of this project.
ARTIFACT-01, a fully pre-built commission project by myself, Salvun and Protozoa for Valhalla was announced. This project is nearing completion, more news soon.
Round 1 of the X-Ray artisan collab was announced. Once launched, it sold out right away. Good news though, a second round (keycaps and artisans) will be launching very, very soon.
February
Threads artisan collab announced. Sadly, this startup would end up winding down before 2024 was over.
April
After a lot of work and planning with GMK, Neue legends were announced. Fully custom double shot legends, available to anyone in the community to use in their designs. Learn more →
Event Horizon artisan set group buy went live. I love it when a silly idea becomes reality and we go the extra mile to make it super special.
Cipher artisan collab is announced. Really wish this one did better, such a unique artisan.
Gestalt artisan collab is announced. 2024 had multiple of my friends release their first keycap projects, and I always love seeing them smash it out of the park. This was Timothy’s first, but he already has multiple other projects in the pipeline.
May
Hi! Viz lives!! Many years in the making, combining one of the most magical colors in the world with a completely new set of double shot GMK legends. Read more…
ZX artisan collab. I still think R0 is a sin, but happy with how this one turned out.
Alu Expo artisan group buy kicked off, will eventually be followed-up by an in-stock drop of the aluminum artisan, original copper one, and a new orange dyed polycarbonate one. More news soon.
June
Tribal artisan collab. That thing about friends making a huge impact with their first project and immediately following it up with another banger to prove they’re not one-hit-wonders? Yeah you can add Oratio to that list. Tribal is an important set, and the execution was impeccable. Proud to have been part of this, and judging by some previews I’ve seen of his upcoming projects it won’t be his last splash.
August
Traveled to Morgantown, WV and gave a presentation about keycap design at NovelKeys’ The Keyboard Meetup. 2 days of traveling to spend 1.5 days with friends was totally worth it.
KCH Karatula artisan collab announced. Bummed the set didn’t end up reaching MOQ, I was super excited for the artisan and theme.
September
MTNU Modern Dolch artisan collab with Omnitype and HIBI. Super fun being part of a classic like MoDo.
Hi! Viz ships, confirmation this is the most polarizing set of keycaps ever. Extras flew out the door, probably my most successful project so far. Bonus: Lots of love for Neue legends.
Clackycon keycaps commission goes live. I love the CCC crew. They run solid meetups and are just great people all around.
GMK Cosmos artisan collab. I’m really enjoying the flow Salvun and I got going. Constantly pushing the craft and each other to create highly original artisans.
Created a page with more information about the artisan collabs I love doing.
November
PBS Classic group buy runs and is quite successful. First group buy of the newly created PBS profile, and my first time working with CannonKeys. Love how we tried to keep the price as low as possible, love the 2 base kits (regular and 40s/ortho), making it a super accessible set all around.
Yuzu launches! Anyone can now design their own set of keycaps, and order only what they need. Read more in my previous newsletter.
December
GMK CYL Fabrik launches as an in-stock set on GMK’s brand new online shop. GMK brand colors, Neue text mods. Still available!
MTNU Space Cadet artisan collab pre-order goes live.
Everyone’s favorite keyboard photographer Captain Sterling shares Event Horizon is his #3 favorite keyboard of 2024, and Expo his #1 keycap set of 2024!! Ending the year in (happy) tears y’all…
