The MOKKOGRAD Report: May 2026

Hi Friends!
April felt long for some reason. Like it had two more weeks than it should. Either way it's over now.
Gamedev-News
I was in a very good mood on April 13th (my Birthday) and released a playable version of "JRPG Game", or as it is actually called "Leid vom Meeresfall - Chapter 1".
You can get in on itch and there's a chance that it might get one more update in a few weeks time, since I got an idea this week that I want to try:

Remember how I said that April felt long? It felt so long that I completely forgot that I wrote three(!) blogs during it. Sometimes I wonder if my blogs all end up repeating the same three arguments over and over again, or that I unknowingly turn into the kind of poster who feels obligated to say something about everything. Nobody likes a thought-leader after all.
Which is why I started to put together a small side blog where I load-off all my terrible thoughts about motorsports. It's not done yet and I'm taking my time with it, because that's thing's entire purpose is to make sure that I contain my car racing ramblings to place where nobody gets to see it, unless they really want to, but doing it might help me with writing about things that aren't just variations of "Capitalism is bad" and "Evil Game Design".
Anyway, in April I wrote three blogs, one of which is about Capitalism being bad and two are elaborations about my idea of "Evil Game Design".
In Early April I wrote "The Threat of the small business brain", while I was putting together a budget proposal for JRPG-Game.

https://mokkograd.net/posts/2026-04-22-Is-XP-Debt-Evil-Game-DesignSpeaking of which, I did stream a playthrough of Leid vom Meeresfall (need to force myself to type the name out more often, even though it's longer than "JRPG-Game"). You can find the first part on my twitch channel, but it has horrendous audio-balancing which is why I don't want to directly link to it.
The second part however is perfectly watchable and honestly shows some of the more interesting things in the game anyway.
You can watch it here, if you want:

How fast can you deal 69 damage in every Final Fantasy:
I don't quite remember how I stumbled over this video, but I do enjoy these very strange and specific challenges. Also some of the strategies that had to be deployed to actually be able to deal 69 damage were really fascinating.
My year as the Killjoy
My Year as the Killjoy | Autumn Wright
Notes on Walking Away
Autumn's piece speaks to a very specific frustration I've personally been feeling in regards to games media, and specifically this newer wave of platforms that have been founded by former-writers of larger progressively-oriented games publications.
In general I've been deeply frustrated by how little the BDS movement's call to boycott Xbox has made any impact on the way these games are covered and talked about, but it is just an expression of wider degree of institutionalised ignorance that I feel affects both games media, but also the creation of videogames themselves.
Pippin Please
Pippin Please: Adequate Attorney by DOMINO CLUB, Emma Dee, Sean
The Secret Recipe Tail
It was really nice for Domino Club to release the results of their "Questions & Answers" jam on my birthday and Pippin Please was just a delight to play. I think it's a riff on the Ace Attorney games, but I never played those, so who knows, really.
I think it's both a nice mystery to dig through, but it's also very, very funny at times. The ending made me almost fall out of my chair.
It's good, you should play it and also play the rest of their games.
See you in June!
