The MOKKOGRAD Report: December 2024
Hi Friends!
The welfare office decided to bother me again this Month, which meant that I had to spend a good part of early November recovering from feeling like a weird failure again. It’s fine! Well, as fine as being a welfare recipient with ADHD in late capitalist Germany can be. At least I found a way to recenter myself and keep working on my various things.
Gamedev-News
Virtue’s Heaven is still happening! The second area is finished, as is the third boss re-design. I’m going to take a break from the game in December, just to recharge my concentration a little bit. Towards the end of November, I noticed that I started to get impatient and sloppy with my work, and I’d rather take my time and make sure that I do things properly. If everything goes to plan, and I’m not getting distracted by life too much, I should have everything in place around April next year.
For December I’m doing some work on things that I want to work on, once Virtue’s Heaven is done and out. I’m not sharing too much of it now, because it’s all still very conceptual and loose and I’d rather have something more real, before I start talking about it more.
Games Ramble
The Nova Campaign I played switched over to playing ”Chuubo’s Marvelous Wish Granting Engine” instead. We haven’t played the game yet, but the rule book sure is a journey. I’m excited to see how it plays, because once you’ve gotten past the weird prose and structure of rule book, the game itself does seem pretty interesting.
I finished Dragon Age Veilguard a few weeks ago and have already forgotten most of what happened. The combat was cool, but towards the end, I did realize how the entire game had maybe five different types of enemies and it’s also kind of strange how each character basically let the player character make decisions about specific important life choices towards the end of their personal quests.
I played some more Dragon’s Dogma 2 right afterwards, and did find it really interesting how much more the Pawns feel like actual characters than your companions in Veilguard? I guess it has a lot to do with Pawns constantly reacting and interacting with the world around them, while the Veilguard companions mostly just talk about things, while not really doing things on their own outside of combat.
Cool things to check out
I have no idea who runs this blog, but I’m huge fan of Cinematic Moments of All time. The blog’s entire premise to post screenshots from videogames where the in-game text is replaced with random movie quotes.
Of the most recent one’s, I particularly enjoyed this one from November 30th:

“A Question of Character” is still my favourite videogame related YouTube channel.
Domino is an incredibly useful tool for me, when I have a bunch of loose ideas and thoughts about something that I need to put into some kind of order. It’s basically a non-collaborative, less annoying version of Miro:

From the journal of Russet Wrinkle, Owner of the Upper Hills Potato Farm in the country of golden Hills. Late Spring, Year 492 of the Age of Hairs.
Walked back from the Tavern late last night and fell over someone sleeping right in the middle of the road. We can’t have that here, so I dragged them into my house. Turned out to be one of them wide folks from the western mountains.
Made them breakfast in the morning, and they talked about being some kind of messenger, that “the Moon is going to fall soon” and other such things. I told them that this was Wizard stuff and that they should worry about more real things. Like the weather, or what to have for lunch.
I offered them my shed to stay in, while they look for some honest work around here, but they insisted on leaving as soon as breakfast was done.
Gave them some potato bread and cheese on the way. We can’t have people passing out on the street from exhaustion over here. What would the neighbours think?
Found a strange stone while cleaning out the guest room, probably belonged to the traveler. Looked too much like Wizard stuff to me, so I threw it into the nearby creek.
Stats:
Destiny: 1
Potatoes: 2
Orcs: 0
See you next year!
Eric
P.S.: Don’t forget that you can wishlist Virtue’s Heaven on Steam!
