Why I’m Supporting Sam Doyle for Mountlake Terrace City Council
I'm excited to support Sam Doyle for City Council, bringing fresh, community-focused leadership to Mountlake Terrace!
Hi neighbors,
This November, Mountlake Terrace voters will choose new members of the City Council and we have an opportunity to bring a fresh, progressive voice into the mix. I’m proud to share why I’m supporting Sam Doyle for Position 1.
I’ve known Sam for about a dozen years—our kids have grown up attending school together—and I’ve seen firsthand the kind of person she is: compassionate, principled, thoughtful, and deeply committed to our community.
Sam has spent nearly two decades in public service, including as a longtime UW Medicine employee and oncology nurse practitioner. She’s also the founder of Democracy in Action – MLT, a 500+ member civic engagement group, and a former member of the Mountlake Terrace Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission. She knows what it means to show up and do the work, not just in words, but in action.
Our current Council has served us well during years of growth and change, particularly in planning for light rail. But as our city enters a new phase—where issues like housing affordability, civil liberties, and equitable growth are front and center—we need leaders who bring fresh perspective, community-rooted experience, and moral clarity.
Sam will be that leader.

She supports:
Proactive and inclusive public safety, not mass surveillance
Smart housing policies, including affordability strategies and renter protections
Expanded human services to address root causes of crime and support residents in need
Thriving small businesses, especially in our town center
Real civic engagement, where transparency and community voice guide decisions
She’s also not afraid to speak up. When the City moved forward with Flock surveillance cameras earlier this year, Sam respectfully challenged the proposal, asking important questions about data sharing, privacy, and community oversight. That kind of courage and thoughtfulness is exactly what we need on the dais.
Sam was recently featured in the Seattle Times for her local organizing work—one of many signs that her campaign is grounded in community and integrity, not political ambition. Read the article here.
Mountlake Terrace hasn’t seen a competitive Council race in years. That’s led to a kind of civic complacency. And in 2025, with so much on the line for our democracy, I believe complacency is a luxury we can’t afford.
Sam is not running against anyone as much as she is running for something: for a city that listens, protects, and includes everyone. I hope you’ll join me in supporting her campaign.
