New Horror RPG & Lots More News from Lyme

Hello! It’s been a while, so thank you for staying subscribed to my mailing list.

Let’s start with the biggest news. The first edition of Fear and Panic is now officially live. It’s my personal take on a d100 horror game, including streamlined mechanics, a Fear system that incentivizes players to seek out horrors to behold, fast character creation, and decisive combat without initiative or hitpoints. If you’ve read the playtest version, it’s still worth another look: the Fear system has been revised to include elements of chance, most text has been rewritten for accuracy, and there are now combat examples, pages of GM advice, and a bestiary. You can find it online here: https://lymetime.itch.io/fear-and-panic

Physical copies of Fear and Panic are also available from IPR at https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Fear-and-Panic-Print-PDF.html

Here’s a little secret just for email subscribers - the Non-Investigative Horror Jam I launched on itch.io is a sneaky way to scout talent who might be interested in doing a collection of adventures for Fear and Panic. Or at least motivate myself to write some intro adventures. The jam runs through December 13th and seeks horror adventures that challenge the investigative plots that dominate published adventures.

In other news, I posted a one-page dungeon for The Onegeon Jam - a punishing and devious encounter, for the kind of group that enjoys that kind of thing.

Vtuber Himeutsugi recently did a stream of Dawn of the Orcs, playing it as a solo game. You can find their summary here on youtube.

Roll For Distraction kindly invited me onto their show to play Dawn of the Orcs with them. It was a good time! The full episode will go live here on October 6th at 10:00 AM EST.

Dawn of the Orcs was nominated for an Ennie in the Best Rules category this year. While it didn’t win the award, it was still an exciting list to place on! Big congratulations to the silver and gold winners, His Majesty the Worm and Triangle Agency.

I’m still blogging occasionally at Brackish Draught; the latest post, on what it would look like if the d100 scene wrote gaming manifestos, is here.

I’m looking forwards to attending Metatopia this year, one of the most fun and interesting conventions in gaming. If you’re planning to be there as well and want to meet up, give me a shout on social media or email!

And since it’s nice to give shout-outs:

I had a lot of fun running Crush Depth Apparition recently. It’s a very innovative system-neutral horror adventure on an experimental submarine in the 1910s, and it does a great job on blending the fundamental terrors of being in a small steel tube in the middle of the North Atlantic with some more mystic elements.

Hostile Architecture is a For The Queen-inspired card game about people and the places they are forced to cope with.

Void Shift is a solo deckbuilder about running a space salvage operation.

Be seeing you!
