What is happening in western NC
Hi all.
Thank you all who have tried to reach out to me. What has happened here is unprecedented. Not just here in Burnsville or Yancey County, but in all the mountain counties. I’m okay. I have power and intermittently have wifi when most of my neighbors don’t. I can’t explain that. I’m lucky because I live on a hill and can walk to stores etc. What we don’t have is potable water as our water plant was gone with the flooding. There are long lines at our 4 gas stations. I still have half a tank. I have plenty of food so am only driving to the high school to help pack supplies for the National Guard to deliver to the fire departments for distribution. I’m accepting donations to help with the relief efforts if you are so inclined. My neighbor and I walked out to Jim’s to see if he was okay a couple days ago. He didn’t have power or wifi, but other than that, you wouldn’t even know from the look of his house that there had even been a storm. Later he caught a ride into town with a neighbor who has an ATV. So he is here for a while.
Another thing we don’t have is access to cash. All the banks and ATMs are closed. Some search and rescue friends of my niece TJ are on their way here with chainsaws, supplies, and cash.
