Two weeks, two trips, two weddings, too much!

I just returned from two wonderful relatives’ weddings - two trips, a week, and seven states apart.

If this sort of thing ever gets scheduled again, I will fly. I’ve inherited a love of road trips from my folks, who took all 13 of us from Wisconsin out to Disneyland in 1955 in a school bus Dad retrofitted with bunks and a chemical toilet, a galley space, and hinged storage underneath for luggage. I was 3 at the time, so only remember the smell of the canvas tent some of us slept in, seeing fireballs rolling down wire fences somewhere, being gobsmacked when approaching the huge merry-go-round in the park, and being told I was too short to go into the spaceship my brothers got into. Story of my life.

Two Saturdays ago, my 78-year old banjo-playing brother in Milwaukee married his 84-year old banjo-playing love, a fabulously funny woman of Irish descent who never had any sisters. Now she has lots, God help her. This past Sunday, my niece married her chosen one after a Saturday of partying in a big park north of Atlanta. Cheers all around, and I’m super glad to be back home. I heard some family stories - good and bad - that I hadn’t heard before, and was asked to pull out old photo albums when I got home to share old wedding pictures with grownups who were kids when those pictures were taken. I hope I can produce something.

Back home, after catching up on sleep today I took the car in to the body shop. In Indiana, I had crossed some RR tracks that were so rough the jolt made the rearview mirror fall off the windshield. It dangled and swung around very annoyingly until I fished a pair of clean panties out of my suitcase to fasten it to the passenger-side visor. Thankfully, if anyone noticed, they didn’t say anything. I thought about duct tape, but the mirror has electronics in it for the car’s built-in GPS (OnStar, which I wish I’d enabled), so it is very heavy.

I am positive there were plenty of interesting tidbits, but right now they’re not manifesting; I didn’t take notes!

Best. News. Ever. Department: I finally, FINALLY, have an appointment July 1st with a neurologist to find out what happened to my brain on July 31st. I’d been trying to get a referral since September! I have pondered this ever since it happened, and just recently have toyed with the notion that it had something to do with being dehydrated. So I’m drinking lots and lots of water, and not much else.

Back to life in Burnsville…..yay!
