October 13th

The weirdest thing about this hurricane recovery period thing is not that I have to heat water to do dishes (I’m switching to paper plates for the time being), or that I sometimes feel like I’m the only person on the street, or that I have way more food (donated) in the house than I ever kept here before, or that my old rock house on the river washed away. The weirdest thing is I now have a dog who is deaf and blind in one eye who is an Australian Shepherd mix. I would never adopt that breed, as I don’t need to be herded, but Tommy (the hurricane rescue) is - he believes he is doing his job. So I am applying to my ankles Vicks VapoRub.

I hurt my right index finger badly last week. The doctor at the ER said it wasn’t broken and that I should apply either heat or cold. Right. So I put into the freezer that thing I can’t remember the name of - a bag with a screw cap - and have wrapped it around my finger. Hasn’t helped one bit. I’m heating water to do dishes and hopefully the warmth of that will help.
