Lubrikant Vol.7 - Volte Of Confidence

Welcome back to Lubrikant, and this time around I have a new Volte-Face radio show to share as well as a 2-hour ambient mix for the Deep Breakfast Series. It may seem counter-constructive, but I’ve been going through a process of musical bifurcation of late in order to more coherently express my diverging interests in music and DJing. I’ll still be using the Volte-Face moniker for all things deep/ambient-techno/adjacent and will also use my own name for DJing and making mixes which explore a wider spectrum of sounds.

Although I have been spending less time swimming in deep techno waters, I did jump at the chance to cover for Avsluta’s excellent Introspective Electronics show on Netil Radio last month and took the opportunity to showcase 2 hours of mostly new and as yet unreleased music. I’m really pleased with the outcome, which is something akin to a warm-up set at a sun-dappled outdoor summer festival. The full tracklist, as usual, can be found via the Soundcloud link below.

Another passion I had the opportunity to fully explore last month was in the making of a 2-hour ambient podcast for the esteemed Deep Breakfast Series, who have hosted some of my favourite artists in the field such as Multicast Dynamics, Toki Fuko, Abul Mogard and Patrick Russell. After reaching the tenth instalment of my Through The Wreckage series, I decided it was time to put it on hold for the time being, and make some mixes with other people in mind as a fresh challenge and to reach some new ears. So for this mix, which I gave the working title ‘Abject Permanence’, I attempted to achieve a mood that was deep (naturellement!), spiritual and a little disquieting. It’s been a long time since I’ve played a beatless set in public, but that’s definitely something I’d be keen to explore if the right context presented itself in future.

Thanks again for reading and, hopefully, listening. I hope you all enjoyed the looong Easter weekend. I enjoyed getting out to see Erol Alkan at NO 90 on Thursday, Naomie Klaus and Mica Levi at Cafe Oto on Saturday and the always incredible Beau Wanzer at New River Studios on Sunday. Would love to hear about any gigs that you’re excited to see in the coming weeks.
